Shipcraft 6 - German S Boats

very good pictures and description very helpful for a modeler

I purchased this publication as a reference for a schnellboot model I am building. The first few pages described the development of the type with short descriptions and some photos. Unfortunately the bulk of the book was devoted to all of the models of the S-boote that had been manufactured. This part was of no use to me and I was left with the feeling that more of the pages should have been devoted to period photos and more detailed text bout the operation of the schnellboote flotillas in WW II. Overall it added somewhat to my reference material but left me feeling that I had paid for model company advertising rather than a useful text.

Nice look at these high speed attack vessels. Great overview of the different variants. Excellent resource for modellers.

This is a good reference book for German S boats. Good photos and info. Fits into my interest in boats/ships of the era.

Nice details but of course it from a few years ago and well before the Italieri 1/35 boat came out. I wish it had some review commentary on that kit but the info on the 1/72 boats was very good.

Good book lots of referance photos

Bought as an aide for S38 I'm building at the moment. It's too positioned at the S100 and the images are not top quality. Plans are non existent for any serious modelling. Thought this would be a good add on for the other reference material I've amassed, but apart from good price, well printed it's too limited as a serious reference item, so it's on the shelf now.

The book contains a fairly good overview of these craft, and some useful monochrome and colour photographs of the real thing are included, together with colour plates showing examples of camouflage schemes (at least one of which cannot be corroborated by any photographic evidence!). Vessel plans and profiles are included, but are really too small to be of any use other than general arrangement drawings. The remainder of the book gives brief details (far too brief, I felt) of S-Boat model products in all scales available at the time of publication (2006, and therefore a fair amount is missing compared to that which has since become available), and a modellers showcase of pictures of completed models which should act as an inspiration (but a bit low on explanatory or descriptive text to be of any significant use) to another modeller.

nice book in the standart shipcraft layout, it most probalbly deserves a better rating than the 4 star i've given it but i ordered it at the same time as "allied torpedo boats" . so im comparing a book on one type of boat against many boats.i find the shipcraft range of books excellent value for money.
