Charlotte Mason’s Original Home Schooling Series

I started attending a Charlotte Mason discussion group and used the free ambleside online text for the first meeting. I ended up taking a lot of notes and writing down several quotes and decided I had to have the book in print! The other moms in the group all brought an older compact version of the volume we're studying with page numbers that lined up correctly with the original text. Each volume costs quite a bit now, so I was apprehensive about buying this version, but $19.99 for all six volumes cannot be beat! When it arrived, I was again wondering if I had made the right choice. It is as huge as an old school phone book! And I wished it had a nicer cover that didn't make it feel like a rainbow resource catalog (or a phone book), hence the 4 stars. I had checked out another older version of the 6 vol compilation from the library some time ago before I joined a group, and that hardcover set was significantly smaller, although still as thick. However, I also remember it feeling overwhelming. I read a few snippets and returned it. With this large print version, I feel comfortable diving into the text and making notes in the columns. It will be harder to take with me as a casual read, but I know my habits and I'm more likely to study this at home. A lot of passages are so beautiful I find myself rereading them 2-3 times. And others are slightly archaic so I have to look up terms on my phone. This book is something I know I'll want to mark and highlight and keep as a reference for a very long time and having it all together will help me do that. The price point is perfect for what you get.

I almost bought each of these separately, would have cost me way more. So glad I found this book, so many moms have recommended these to me.

The book is big but I was warned of that ahead of time. You definitely need to sit at the table with this one! The cover art is not amazing so I may try to paint it. Charlotte Mason’s words and instruction are so beautiful though and it is great to have them all in one place!

This book is giant- as long as you know that before you purchase. It's like a phone book. I'm not a fan of the cover art at all. Also, the way it's put together can be a bit cumbersome to figure out because it's all of her books together in one but the table of contents at the beginning is for just the first book. Once I found the beguof each book I put tab post it notes to find easily and it was just fine. Great writing and so worth it to have all in one place! Love Charlotte Mason!!

Charlotte Mason is Amazing!!! Love this book, it is very big but I'm more concerned with absorbing the knowledge inside.

Love the content. Amazing literary piece! I enjoy highlighting the CM quotes!But, a very large heavy book.Hard to find where one book ends and another begins.

Though there are some typos, I really enjoy having all of Charlotte Mason's Homeschooling Series in one place!

The print in this edition is clear and it's well set out on the page, with reasonably-sized margins. It may not be as pretty as other editions, so it won't look so impressive on the shelf -- but this was a practical way for me to get hold of the CM volumes. The best edition is the one you read, after all.One US reviewer added a useful tip: it's all of her books together in one but the table of contents at the beginning is for just the first book. Once I found the beg. of each book I put tab post it notes to find easily and it was just fine.(By the way: Do not be worried about it's legitimacy, it's just scanned from the original.)
