A pity Scott Fitzgerald died early
I have read all Scott Fitzgerald's works and enjoyed them all. The only thing wrong with this Kindle edition was the many mistakes. For example Mr became Mrs which, until I realised, thought they were closet transvestites.Plus there were many other mistakes which didn't detract from the story and, of course because Scott Fitzgerald died whilst writing the book, it ended rather suddenly. Is it wrong for me to promote my own books on Amazon: The Modest Samaritan and Nut Screws Washer plus a non fiction: Be Somebody. Start your own Business? I received abuse from an Amazon client so let me know if I'm breaking any laws.

Loved it
Loved the characters, and can see how their personalities and stories could be developed in a series. The time period is interesting, and not explored as often as some other eras. Although the screen play took liberties with Fitzgerald's novel, it seemed to remain true to the original for the most part. Also found it interesting that some of the issues explored in the film (i.e., salary inequality, women's position in the work place, homelessness) are still issues today. And there's nothing not to love about Matt Bomer - such a good choice for Monroe, Would love to see the pilot made into a series to see more character development and relationships.

F. Scott Fitzgerald's last novel
Fitzerald is one of my son's favorite authors and for Christmas one year I bought all of his books for their library. I finally bought this one for my own library. It is a challenge seeing the narrator, (Fitzgerald) as a female. Monroe Stahr is a Hollywood big shot and Fitzgerald doesn't finish his last novel before he dies. If you're looking for another Gatsby, it's not going to happen here. It's a good read, but it's not Gatsby.

Four Stars
Very good. It's a shame he didn't get to finish it.

"The Last Tycoon" is actually a work in progress. ...
"The Last Tycoon" is actually a work in progress. As a result, the narrative is somewhat disjointed, with large gaps in the story. The main character is well fleshed out, and the description of the Hollywood studio system is fascinating. Read it and try to imagine what it might have been had the author not died prematurely.

Beautiful, Just as Expected
I want all six of these. If only I could find them easier in the States. I'll keep looking. These are beautifully designed and printed. They area a lovely tribute to an amazing writer.

Incorrect book sent
I ordered the book described on the right side of this review submissin page. The book that I purchased was titled The Last Tycoon, An unfinished Novel, Together with the Great Gatsby and Selected stories. The book that I received was the Last Tycoon, without the Great Gatsby or the additional Selected stories. That is the reason for my negative review. I was contacted by the seller once before and asked to change the review to one more positive but was not offered any resolution for the fact that an error was made and the wrong book was delivered. Please do not ask me to continually review the same purchased ona repeated basis. Thank you.Sincerely,Marcel Tourdot

Amazing
A fabulous read with an interesting story behind it that it's included in the book (a great and appreciated bonus).

The Lost Tycoon
Fitzgerald’s great unfinished final work, published posthumously, tells the story of workaholic studio boss Monroe Stahr, haunted by the death of his wife. He becomes infatuated with her lookalike. The story is cut cruelly short, so Fitzgerald’s plan for a Great Gatsby-style novel set in California was lost to the literary world. His notes make clear what he intended to happen next - sadly they’re not included here. There’s a wonderful dry humour, at times highly barbed and waspish, and there are many perceptive observations about the movie business. (Fitzgerald was a screenwriter, though without much success). The passages about Stahr’s brief relationship with Kathleen are beautifully done. Almost every page has a memorable sentence. It’s a shame it wasn’t finished. But the characters have lived on, and I suspect a lot of what Fitzgerald said about movies, actors, producers and studio bosses in the 1930s holds true today.

Die-Hard Fitzgerald fans only!
I am an enormous fan of Fitzgerald and have read around 80% of the hundred or so Fitzgerald short stories he had published. I had put off reading 'The Last Tycoon' for years as disagree with the notion of publishing an author’s un-finished work and also had heard mainly low opinions on it.As Fitzgerald was a renowned revisionist - the 'unfinished' aspect of this novel really shows. I couldn't get into the plot and found the prose a little choppier than usual. I am glad I read it if just to have an opinion on it but would advise borrowing from a friend or the library if you're debating it on a cost level (however low a price.) Gave three stars as it of course has moments of genius that only Fitzgerald could be responsible for and isnt' a complete waste of time but perhaps for Die-Hard Fitzgerald fans only!
