If you’ve ever tried to separate an old rusted joint on a car then you’ll appreciate this tool as it makes light work of the job. It seems well made and has helped me with 4 nasty joints that haven’t been separated for 15 years so it’s certainly up to the task for home mechanic use. They way these work is using the nut to drive the device so pop a big spanner or socket on there and wind and the joint will pop. It will go all of a sudden so be ready for it to surprise you and leave retaining nut loose so the joint doesn’t totally fly apart.The tool doesn’t come in any case just a plastic bag so throw it in your tool box and don’t worry about unnecessary extra packaging.These things are so much better than struggling with a pickle fork and hammer.

Must admit I didn’t know such tools existed but this hydraulic action shock absorber/bottom suspension arm splitter/spreader will certainly save trying to swing a hammer and chisel to get the bottom separated. It’s made of decent metal, seems robust enough: the body takes a size18mm spanner/grip and the adjusting end nut is size17mm - see photos: Note tools not supplied, just used to show how it works. I/we will be using this in the coming weeks on a job, but will update accordingly - no update, then it works okay! :) Overall a handy, time saving (and knuckles) little device to have in a toolbox.
