I have several cake stands... I guess I'm a bit of an addict. This one, however, is different from my others because the lid is light but looks like glass! It is a bit shorter than I envisioned it would be, which really makes it perfect for those short cakes that always look so tiny in my larger stands. It's also great for brownies and cookies. That's a plus since everyone in the family grabs them on the run. No accidental breakage when little paws sneak a treat! I like that it can be used for chip and dip; however, the "dip bowl" is too small to hold much. I'll probably use it more for smaller veggies like cherry tomatoes and just serve the dip on the side. (hence, the four stars instead of five) The wood is pretty on mine. Natural variations are to be expected on a product like this. All around a great addition to my countertop!

It tends to wobble and disbalance when I cut and take a piece of cake. This can be annoying and messy. I wish the cake stand had a more sturdy base or a locking mechanism to prevent this.

I got this to replace my favorite cake stand from Hearth & Hand because the glass dome cracked. I like that this looks very similar and you can’t tell the lid is acrylic until you pick it up and it’s so lightweight. The wood has a fairly neutral tone (not yellowy or orange) but it’s clear they glued some pieces together and it’s not made from a solid piece. The base was also a little more hazy and less rich in color than the top piece. The base screws into the bottom so you can remove it or flip it over to use as a tray with small dip or candy compartment. Overall, I like my old one better (and same price $50) because it felt more luxurious and had a substantial weight in my hands. However, this one is going to be more practical in my home with two kids and it will probably last longer. So overall, it’s a win and I think go for it if you can find it on sale.

I wasn't sure if I would like this cake stand before I bought it. Wood and acrylic? I should've listened to my gut, because upon opening the cake stand the incongruity of the materials was immediately evident. You have the natural warmth of the wood stand combined with the artificial plasticity of the acrylic dome, and it left me wanting more. Glass would suit it much better, or even a more natural translucent material. I don't know, I'm no expert on cake stands.The other issue I have with this cake stand is how short the dome is. It can barely hold a 2 layer cake with a good amount of frosting. There's no way this thing is storing a cake of 3 or 4 layers, which I feel are pretty common, since everyone is baking cakes now, it seems.Overall, the wooden stand is very nice. The plastic dome feels cheap and almost like an afterthought or a replacement piece. Combined with its shallowness, it kind of makes me wish I'd bought a different cake stand.
