X700-2K/4K UHD - 2D/3D - Wi-Fi - SA-CD - Multi System Region Free Blu Ray Disc DVD Player - PAL/NTSC - USB - 100-240V 50/60Hz Cames with 6 Feet Multi-System

For the money, this is probably the best 4K (Ultra HD) Bluray player your are likely to find. It plays multi-regional DVDs just fine, right out of the box. It plays Region A, B, and C Bluray disks using the remote to toggle between regions. The USB-A connector is conveniently located on the front panel, allowing you to play media in a variety of formats from a USB stick. There are two HDMI output ports, which is great if you need to send the HDMI signal to two different places (e.g., a TV and a soundbar). Everything works very well. You won't be disappointed by the video quality. As a plus feature, this will play SACD (Super Audio CD) format disks. If you know what that means, and if you have those disks, this is probably one of this deck's most impressive features. It also plays standard CDs. Given my large collection of SACD disks and about a thousand CDs, it is nice to have one unit on the shelf that will play every thing that I own that is formatted on a 5" disk. The only downside to the unit is that it is entirely controlled from the remote. There are no operational controls on the front panel. Although this isn't a problem, it does require you to deal with another remote (unless you have a large programmable remote that is device independent). Now, here's the tricky part... The X700 didn't leave Sony as a multi-region player. That means that any unit you purchase that is a multi-region player has been opened and modified by, presumably, the source you procured it from (not Amazon, their reseller). When reading the reviews, I was led to believe that the only sure way to obtain a true "Region-free" player was to buy from the specific reseller "Bombay Electronics". This cost me a $30 premium I opted to pay because I didn't need to get into the endless swapping devices routine with Amazon Prime. The unit I received was in pristine condition, but it did not include an HDMI cable (which wasn't a problem for me, but if you don't have one laying around you should order one along with the player, knowing you can always return it if you don't need it). So, this review is actually for the Bombay Electronics version of this player. It is entirely possible that the default reseller "M-System" will provide an equivalent multi-region modification, and perhaps even include an HDMI cable. I can't arrest to it's function nor its package contents. I do know that I am satisfied with the unit I purchased from Bombay Electronics, and except for the missing HDMI cable, it meets all of the specifications in the Amazon listing.

Perfect, super clean design. Purchased this from AmazonResale and got exactly what I ordered. My only complaint is my player didn’t have the sticker showing it was region-free, it only shows stickers for BD-A and DVD-1 regions despite playing other region coded discs. It’s so easy to set up and use, I honestly regret not investing into this player sooner. I got this one for my parents and I’m so relieved how simple the UI is along with the remote. The player connected to my soundbar with ease! Just a simple master connection through the TVs hdmi. Love how clean my wire management is now with this player only needing 2 wire connections 3 at most for those who want wired sound connection.

The player seem great and works well. Good picture, sound and the Multi System Region Free DVD worked right off the bat. Will update after a few weeks after receiving other "out of country" dvd's and Blu-ray's. So far very happy! Update 01/28/23: Received my first Region 2 DVD and tried to play it After looking through Setting to no avail - Still see "Playback prohibited by region code." I have now contacted the seller. Unless I hear something (positive) back by Monday 01/30/23, I will return the unit! Disappointed! Update 02/02/2023: Again ripped off by Amazon! Charged me $7.99 for the return - paid $250.00, got $242.01 back - after they sent me an item that was totally misrepresented in the description! Not the first time so I will now contact the BBB along with the General Attorney's office. Luckily I have a folder of all my "questionable" purchases the original (false) descriptions. Pissed!

Can confirm the player successfully played back Region B Blu-Ray we have been trying to get working on a different player to no avail. This one was correctly enhanced by 220 Electronics. To ensure you get the right enhanced unit though, BE SURE to click on the "Other Sellers" page for the product page, DO NOT just add to cart or buy from the main listing, in the Other Sellers list find 220 Electronics and Add to Cart from that selection. This worked for me, first time I see other reviewers say they didn't get the right unit after multiple tries from Amazon, I think this is the reason why, reading the other reviews. Happy with the purchase day one, it's also a "Smart" player with streaming app support and has a good range of player settings you can even set different subtitle fonts and whatnot. Content plays back crisply and in 4K HDR successfully. The player is very light but sturdy, has lots of connectivity at the back, included an extra 4K HDR capable HDMI cable, and setup was instant, I fiddled around in settings to see what I could do but had to change nothing. Simply followed instructions to press the "Blue" function button on the remote before closing the tray and my Region B disc worked without a single hitch. Thanks, 220!

If you purchase this player I HIGHLY recommend you purchase it from 220 Electronics. They setup this player to play different region dvd's. I received it and had purchased a DVD that I have been trying to get for years called Little Lord Fauntleroy, the 1980's one and all had been foreign or questionable. The one I bought was Italian and it played perfectly on this player. Just follow the included directions. I plan on trying other region dvd's and will update accordingly. As of now very satified.

I tried the LG UP870, and despite being $150 less (as of March 2018), this is a far superior player. The X800 looked okay too, but with Dolby Vision planned for the summer, this seemed the best option of the two. It’s odd Sony go with a lower product number with a newer player, but the X700 appears to be the new X800. Region free - it works well. DVD is always region free, and Blu Ray requires pressing colors on the remote (instructions are included with the player). 4K - it’s my first experience with 4K so cant really comment vs other 4K, but specs wise this looks like it will be great and future proof for a while. Only downside to this player is the remote. It’s very cheap and light. Oddly the remote (RMT-B119A) that came with my old Sony S5100 works fine with this player, and it feels so much better, so the old remote is now with the X700, and the new one is with the old S5100.. Update 2 months on: The player is still holding up very well. No issues at all. Plays everything I throw at it. Unlike my old Sony Blu Ray player with USB, this one doesn’t keep the USB drive active all the time so if you have a regular non-SSD USB drive, it will save your drive by it not being on all the time. When you want to use the USB, just select it on the home screen and it’ll start the USB up again. Seems there’s a sleep timer to save the connected drive from being on when it doesn’t need to be which is nice. SSD HDDs through USB work great but you really don’t need them - over USB 3.0 4K/2160p video files from a regular external HDD play perfectly well. Update 6/6/18: Software update M43.R.0175 out either yesterday or today has Dolby Vision now.

I've had this player for about 4 months now. I was initially quite impressed with the capabilities and it quickly became the cornerstone of my media center. It's a mixed bag though when it comes to functionality and I wanted to let you know about some details that impact using this player: Pros: -Great picture quality, plays UHD and multi-region discs as advertised -Reads hard drives/USB really well. I was pleasantly surprised here, this seems to play all file formats and has subtitle selection and other options that make this a step above my PS4 for watching digital copies of movies. Cons (major): -I have heard some reliability issues with Sony players reading UHD, and this seems to be a little true. I've watched maybe a dozen 4k UHD discs on this player (been mostly Blu Rays otherwise) and once I had an error with the player where I had to restart the system. The system froze maybe halfway through the Criterion Mulholland Dr 4K, and it definitely was the player's fault. It worked fine on reset, but it certainly affected the viewing experience. -This player has poor aspect ratio controls for DVDs. Many DVDs have a native 4:3 format for older TVs, so on widescreen and 16:9 films on these discs there are built in black bars above and below the picture. On systems like the PS4 you can zoom in the whole picture on a standard 16:9 TV so the movie fills the whole screen. On this Sony X700 you only seem to have the option to stretch the picture, so the film is distorted. You also have to go to the home menu to make this change. Really unacceptable here, I switch to my PS4 to watch DVDs like this. -Most of the Apps do not work and you cannot download more. This isn't that big of a deal for me as I mostly use a Firestick, but it's a shame that this device basically doesn't have streaming capability for anything other than Netflix or Hulu. Cons (minor): -Display button does not show chapter breaks on blus or DVDs, like if you were to press the touchpad on a PS4 while watching a disc. -Navigation/fast-forwarding is clunky, either too fast or not accurate enough. -Subtitle selection does not include the subtitle file name. Really annoying if there are like 5 different subtitles and you have to cycle through each one to find the most appropriate. Overall I would say kind of a decent 4k region-free player for the price. I paid $270 and it gives me the base functionality I needed. It's just a shame you seem to have to pay at least $400 or $500 to get a really good player with these capabilities.

I originally had an LG 4K region free player because it was the cheapest one I could find. Well, after a month there was a power surge and it went completely dead on me. It was past my return date so I had to eat that loss. So I found this sony, which was nice because it's the same brand as my 7.2 surround sound receiver. The headache lays where I first ordered this unit refurbished and it worked just fine until I saw it was not region free like described. However, amazon accepted the return and refunded me and I bought this again from a 3rd party seller on amazon. They sent the right one and this player works great. Easy set up and plenty to mess around with to set to your preference. I mostly left everything on auto and havent had any issues. Setting the different regions is easy as you just have the unit off with nothing in it and hold the color button that corresponds with the region you want to play (the region colors are in the manual). The unit will turn on after a few seconds and you'll be set to play whichever region you chose. You may or may not need to update the player, but just connect to the internet and it will tell you if its updated or one is available. This unit was already updated. Overall, it's worth the few extra bucks in my opinion and has more features than the LG model.

SONYのリージョンフリーの機種がやはり安心して使える。海外メーカーのもあるが、、、。 だいぶ以前に購入した他メーカーのBlu-rayプレイヤーが壊れて、どうせならリージョンフリーの4K UHDプレイヤーが欲しかったので購入しました。あって良かった商品です。

Sin duda una chulada de reproductor. Hace 4 años me compré el BDP S6700 creyendo que reproduciría discos 4K y me decepcioné al ver que no, solo los escalaba. Era nuevo en este mundo de coleccionar BR y de reproductores. Aún así muy buen reproductor. Por fin pude comprarme uno que SÍ reprodujera 4K nativo y mejor aún, multiregión. Después de ver varias opciones, opté por el X700 obviamente por el precio que es el más accesible y por los comentarios, aunque eran algo divididos, me aventé. No me decepcionó, fácil de configurar y la calidad es increíble. No he tenido ningún inconveniente en esta semana que lo compré y vaya que he puesto ya varios discos. Probé el de Avatar 3, Pink Floyd Live Pompey, The Matrix y Pacific Rim (todas estas en disco 4K UHD) y se vieron espectaculares. No batalló el reproductor en cargarlos. Respecto a streaming, no he probado esa parte, pero honestamente no lo compré para eso. En conclusión, es una excelente opción si estás empezando en el mundo de reproductores o colección de BR, o si quieres cambiar de reproductor porque te pasó lo que a mí.

Plays old cds, dvds, blu rays in regions 1 and 2 everything I have tried so far. Great 4 k picture and very good sound. It plays well with my other stereo equipment, oddly my Yamaha receiver remote control works with the X700 so that’s a nice bonus. Some say that the unit is slow, and that the X700 has a delay, I haven’t noticed this to be a problem. If something happened to mine I would buy the exact same model today.

Absolutely love this player does everything I want plays everything very easily, just remember to press the right colour buttons for different regions, remember to load draw keep open and press the colour required before closing the draw, great picture everything's crystal clear, great sound, did think it was a little pricey but can definitely tell it was worth that little extra, I'd definitely recommend to those who have all sorts of different region dvds in their collection
