Small but good at what they do
It took me a while to like these speakers (about 1 week). I bought them to replace my 8 inch behringer monitors. First, I have mixed audio sinced the year 2000 and do not believe in the perfect or "best" speaker. I do believe that you buy a quality reference monitor and you train your ears to use that monitor within the room you are mixing. You can have $5000 monitors in a horrible, reflective box shape room and you basically have expensive paper weights because you are not getting the benefit of the monitors. Why did I buy them: my new studio was smaller and for the main rough mix I wanted a smaller monitor (reduce reflections) that had great stereo placement, good midrange, and a somewhat decent bass. The Equators delivered. I still go up and check my mixes on my larger monitors. I still use the boombox, radio, etc. as well. The pros: Great stereo imaging, decent midrange reproduction, decent bass frequency reproduction, portable (can and have taken them with me), small, great price, can adjust volume on monitor to match each monitor, do what they are suppose to do.The Cons: takes a while to get use to them (at least for me), could be a little louder, need just a little more representation in the lower frequency (guess that's what subwoofers are for:) but extra equipment to transport).Would I recommend them: Absolutely, these are nice monitors if you could afford only one pair in this price range but remember that no matter what monitor you choose (as long as they are decent) it will take time to learn.

terrific value
These are very good monitors for the price. I'd definitely recommend them if you are looking for monitors under 500/pr. However, they do have some midrange frequency coloration compared to my Mackie HR624s, and much less deep bass and overall dynamic range. But the Mackies are over twice as expensive.

Amazing stereo imaging, but some deal-breaking shortcomings
These are sold by Alto Music, and they are an excellent dealer. Delivery was prompt, arrived in perfect condition, and when I chose to return them, there was no problem at all. I recommend Alto Music. Now, about the monitors.... The concentric design is really great, the stereo imaging is outstanding, very three dimensional. I particularly enjoyed going back to Bruce Swedien mixes (Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Sergio Mendes) to enjoy the multiple coexisting stereo fields all accurately displayed in any one of his mixes. But, the tweeter output was way hotter than the midrange and port, at least in my treated room. I'm sure they measure great in the manufacturer's anechoic chamber, but who listens to music in an anechoic chamber? Since there is no low pass filter option for the tweeter, you either have to double think it, or wind up with mixes that are too dark. Also, while there's plenty of bass, and there is a high pass filter to fine tune bass output, the bass lacks focus and definition in comparison to my other monitors. That makes it hard to judge the kick to bass relationship. I was shipped the 2015 model; they've made some improvements in the 2016 version, including a redesign of the port, so that may help. Glad I was able to check them out.

Ya gotta hear these...
I have used many monitors over 30 years as a semi-pro audio guy...these monitors are simply the best I've used. I currently have Mackie HR 824s, JBL LSR305, as well as some lower end Alesis monitors (M1 Actives). It is quite an eye opener to listen to these monitors side by side and hear what I've been missing.I have mixed on KRK, JBL, and many other monitors at all different prices levels - I used to swear by my Mackies for years, and the D5s are just in a class of their own. I am hearing things in my mixes I just could not hear before. They are absolutely worth every penny - and they are 1/3 the price of the Mackies. If you are serious about your music, and don't want hype but honesty in your sound - these are the way to go...

Good all-around monitors
Nice sounds for the size and price point. But if you plan to use these for a house party, I'd recommend investing in a sub

All I Can Say is WOW! EQUATOR D5's are Fabulous!
I read an article/review about these monitors in Recording Magazine's December 2011 issue. While I trust the magazine and have rarely been disappointed by their recommendations, I was a bit skeptical this time. The main reason being that at the price point these monitors were at, it seemed impossible that they could perform as stated. Last year I purchased a set of M-Audio BX5A's for the same price and although they were highly rated and sounded okay when demonstrated, upon using them at home I was very unhappy with their performance. Now reading about the Equator D5's, with the strong review and low pricing, I took a gamble and ordered a pair thru Amazon. They were back-ordered and initially I was relieved; deciding to cancel the order and save myself some money and expected misery (I mean really could they really be that good?). For some reason, I just could not bring myself to cancel.Let me also add that these monitors were not going to be my main ones. I have a full studio equipped with the awesome Dynaudio BM5A's. I always felt that maybe I was being too critical of the M-Audio's because I was used to the BM5A's. That changed when the Equators arrived. As soon as I set them up and played some in-process projects, I knew I had some very special monitors in my possession. I listened to completed projects, reference material, and even made a quickie fresh recording to play around with. When I re-read the review in Recording Magazine, it was apparent that everything the article said was true...and then some. In this day and age to make a purchase that truly lives up to hype is REFRESHING. Get them while the price is where it is! You won't be sorry.

Incredible Monitors! Even Better Customer Service.
These are some of the best monitors that I have heard, and this is compared to much more expensive brands like Adam and Genelec. For the price there is nothing else better. They sound very flat and can get quite loud for their size. I had an issue with noise on one of the two monitors that I received, when I called Equator's customer service about the issue Ted Keffalo (the guy that owns the company) answered. Ted acknowledged the issue and sent a replacement unit out and I had it the next day. These guys a real professionals and have created a wonderful product. I highly recommend Equator Audio.
