It comes in handy!
I’m recovering from ankle surgery and quickly learned that my sofa was impossible to get up from. It’s too low and the arms are also too low for me to get to my feet. Since I don’t have anywhere else to sit except the sofa or my wheelchair, I needed something to help. This has done just that. I’m non-weight bearing on one foot and found this movable arm rest can be put right where I need it. It’s given me the freedom to sit on the sofa and more importantly get off of it independently. It’s sturdy, and the grip part is well padded so it doesn’t hurt my hand. We tried several options before this and this one was the keeper. My partner is also finding it handy when he’s tired or his hip is bothering him enough to make getting up a challenge. I highly recommend for anyone that needs help to push up to get to standing or just to a wheelchair.

Useful Standing Assistance
The device is made of heavy gauge steel, with a wide triangular base. For someone who can use their arm to shift their weight to the top of the rubber-cushioned handle, it will help them stand from a sitting position. The anchoring screws on the base are small and seem pretty fragile for long-term durability. If I had the tools, I'd drill the holes out and bolt the thing on more firmly. The adjustment screws are also funky - bolts with long sleeves and threaded ends, with a fine-threaded machine screw to fasten the end. It's something of a hassle to get them in and threaded firmly, and it takes one more tool - a Phillips or star head screwdriver - to finish the job.

Great all around
Easy to put together, slides easily under a chair or couch, and offers a more stable assist when transferring from one chair to a wheelchair. Bought it for an elderly parent. it also has a nice non-slip grip.

Poorly built and missing screw - avoid buying this!
Very poor build quality. I had to bend the edges of the metal of the main shaft to even get it to begin to go over the bottom receiving part of the shaft. After that I had to pound it down to get it low enough.Consequently the height isn't adjustable because of the very poof fit of the parts. Also - one missing screw needed to attach the pole to the base.If you are mechanically adept, have strong heavy tools and know how to work with metal, then go for it.You *might* have to make some serious modifications to ever assemble this product. If you're none of the above then avoid this product like the plague.

Perfect
After buying a few different items like this. I can say we finally found one that really works and it very well made. Must place under the couch or what ever but something heavy has to hold it down. I'm very impressed with this for my elderly father. Very easy to put together as well.

Didn't live up to potential
The premise for this assistance tool seems sound, but it's hard to make it work so it can live up to it's potential. There are at least two problems with using this.First, the base is a solid painted metal material and it can easily slide when placed on most floors, especially tile, but even on a rug or a hardwood. It comes without directions, but it's straightforward in how it works. It must be stabilized by either a high friction surface or the base plate should be placed under a leg of the furniture you're sitting in. Even under a leg it can slide or shift position. The other problem is that you probably need two of these. Anyone who is getting up from a couch or chair will typically use both hands, so having only one assistive support means you must lean on one side and have a strong arm to push yourself up. So having two of these should work much better, if you can find a way to place them under a couch/chair leg or on a high friction surface. Finally, the lowest height setting is not really low enough for some uses. There were some times when the person wanted to lean forward on the assistive handle, but it was too high for getting the best leverage. A setting two or three inches lower would have been useful. This is a sturdy and easy to assemble tool (NO instructions were included), but it was hard to find a position where it had stability and could really help someone get up from a sitting position.

?
Good to assist getting up and out of couch. However it didn’t come with assembly instructions…easy to assemble. BUT one screw was missing. Aces hardware had one close to size that worked.

Very sturdy and useful
I’m very glad I purchased this. The base is large and sturdy. It does not tip at all. I like that the metal base slides very easily across the carpet so I can move it from couch to chair to rocker. It does not need to be anchored under a leg of the furniture. It seems very well made and I think it will last a long time. I cannot speak to the easy of assembly as the PT put it together for me while I was in the bathroom.
