Covers? Are they neccessary?
I love this group and have followed them through all their releases. When I heard of this cover versions album I admit I was a bit perplexed! Why do a covers album when your own songs are good enough? The reviews state that the songs covered are a loving and fun appreciation of 80's favourites... and some of them are> I am a big lover of electronic music and the 80's so what could go wrong. Well more singing from Jon on this album, which I don't like, but the songs chosen show his obvious favourite artists. The Sparks cover is a favourite of mine and the Erasure one I can cheerfully skip, Amii does a surprisingly tender and lovely version of Depeche Mode's Sometimes (a song I could never think of a cover version) and Physical Attraction is pure fun. There are a few tracks that I didn't know (like the opener), but in whole it is a successful venture. This is not the only new release from this group this year, they are releasing a new album in the Autumn, this must have been a 'filler'. Not the 1st album to start with if you are new to their music, but a good selection of classics set to good electro music. Give it a try, you may be pleased!
