Great Text, Mind the Binding
Text is fantastic, as expected rom Broadview editions (I used it to prep for my PhD Qualifying exams, and will probably teach undergrads from it going forward). Heads up, though-- the binding detached after only moderate use and travel-- no water damage, no harsh cracking of the spine, etc. I'm not sure if this has something to do with using recycled materials? Anyway, the text is great, the edition is handsome, the service is great, but be mindful of the binding issue because I doubt this is a fluke.

wonderful resource for Marie de France
Features an excellent, understandable introduction to the texts, plus facing Old French - English translations side by side. Makes it easy for someone learning Old French to efficiently consult the English translation - OR read the English with consultation of the OF text. A wonderful book!

Love the original plus translation format.

Great text for English students serious about Marie de France
4.5 stars. This is the first facing Old French-English edition of the celebrated lays of Marie de France. For students who were introduced to Marie using the classic prose Penguin Edition (Burgess & Brook, 2nd ed, 1999), this is the next step up. This edition allows them to quickly compare the English line to the corresponding Old French verse, which should result in greater accuracy in textual analysis or, at the very least, greater awareness that English is not the original language. As such, I highly recommend this edition for the English literature classroom. It should be THE edition for any serious study among those who do not feel comfortable working exclusively in French, old or modern. If this applies to you, buy this text and refer to the free, online anglo-norman.net for assistance with hacking through the left-hand side of the page. There are a very few translations irregularities, for which I have removed .5 stars. For specialists, Waters has undertaken a new, highly conservative transcription of Harley 978. Although the back cover would suggest that there are no emendations, there are; but they are less frequent and better noted than in previous editions. This alone is extremely useful, and I will likely continue using the edition for scholarly work - though not the translation.

Great text- disappointing delivery.
Book is ideal for my needs, but it arrived with a dent in the parcel that carried through to almost 40 pages of the book. I am very unhappy with recieving an item so damaged. Will Amazon compensate for this damage?
