AC3 (Dolby Digital 5.1) only. Not all devices work.
Works for all HDMI devices EXCEPT the following (if you want to extract DD 5.1):(DD 5.1) Does not work for:* Chromecast video and audio units* nVidia shield (16GB/500GB)* roku devices up thru this 2018 generation** Nintendo Switch(DD 5.1) WORKS on natively via the TOSLINK output only:* PS3/PS4/PS4 PROEntire reason for buying this unit was for me to use a roku device and watch netflix (extracting the DD5.1) - unbeknownst to me at the time of purchase is that Netflix uses DD+ (dolby digital plus) format. They do not encode in AC3 (DD 5.1).*ROKU - it can work with PLEX - i can get DD 5.1 (AC3) encoded videos just fine. BUT watching anything else like Netflix/HBO GO/HULU, will not give you DD 5.1 even if set in menu.Overall the unit is small, needing only 5v/<1amp to run. Supports 3 HDMI inputs and outputs perfectly to my projector. In fact i have my older chromecast video Gen 1 and/or Gen 2 and it allows me to at least extract PCM - 2.0 - so my receiver can simply use it's effects on. But the signal is digital so that's what I wanted. You can do this rather than having to buy an extra chromecast audio device (which I also have) - works good. The movies/tv shows from google won't output AC3 (DD 5.1) either, it's going to be DD+ only. I will not buy another receiver even though my receiver is more than 15 years of age because I paid thousands for it and it works great. So if you are looking to extract AC3 (DD5.1) you can do so with ROKU but using PLEX and videos that have AC3 embedded streams. Otherwise this doesn't work for any of the hardware I've tested above. If you want to get the latest codecs, just buy an HDMI receiver instead that has support for these newer encoded streams.I rate this 5 stars being it works as advertised but note the above hardware won't work if you want AC3 streams. I use this connected to a projector. video is flawless and audio is pure digital.Note: using the PS3/4/Pro will net you AC3 DD 5.1 because by setting the output to dolby in the audio menu, the PS machines will re-encode DD+ downmix to AC3.

4K Switcher With Limitations
The switcher does an excellent job with 4K video at 60 frames a second. The issues come in when you need 24 frames a second and HDR are important. The switcher does not pass 24 frame 4K content and it mutes colors when passing HDR. This makes it a poor choice if passing UHD movies is important. I also had issues passing audio through the optical port. It would send loud feedback when starting and stopping playback. Only recommended for 4K 60 passing.
