Amazingly Readable!
This book does exactly what it says in the title. It takes you through some of the techniques used by embroiderers in the 18th century. The photographs are clear and easy to study. The techniques are copyable by someone who is familiar with embrodiery stitches. For beginners, I would suggest you purchase a book on 'How To Do Embroidery' which will help you understand someof the concepts in this book. Although I bought this primarily as a reference book, I found it actually readable and enjoyable. It is a MUST HAVE for anyone interested in fine embroidery. Well work a look.

Well illustrated
I'm pleased with this book, it has lots of good photographs. It's pretty comprehensive and I found out a lot about types of embroidery that have sadly died out.

Good book
This does exactly as the title suggests. It demonstrates the different embroidery techniques practiced in the 18th Century, illustrating each with examples from textiles available to see in museums and collections in Britain. Excellent for textile and clothing historians, embroiderers, and possibly social historians with an interest in clothing, though social history is not a priority to the writer of this book.
