Inspiring story of determination, and belief in God.
When Siv first told me about her book, I pre-ordered my copy. I know Siv through our church and have heard her speak about her experience. When the book came, I started to read and could not put the book down! I read the entire book in one reading. Siv is an AMAZING woman of God!This story is a journey of love, faith and a determination to survive. We, as Americans, have no comprehension of what it means to survive in a hostile environment. Siv's love for her family, God, and a determination to survive is amazing!Through her entire ordeal, she kept clinging to her father's promise, to pray, believe in God and one day she will go to America.

An Amazing Life
I have known Siv since she first arrived in the United States. Siv and I were members of Jefferson United Methodist Church where she began her life of recovery and success, and also attended school (elementary and high school) together. Growing up, talking about her experiences was not something she did, nor did others press her to relive or explain. I have always thought Siv to be a beautiful person and my respect and admiration for her is even greater after reading her story of survival. As the title indicates, this is her account of survival, but it is also her account of faith, love, despair, perseverance, hope, and forgiveness. I'm proud to know this remarkable woman!

Wow
This is by far the most inspirational book that I've read lately. One cannot even fathom the horrific things that happened to this young girl, what she fought and lived through. We should all read these memories from Mrs. Siv Ashley and be thankful for the freedom that we all have in America. As I closed the book, I left with a sense of pride in my country and a renewed faith in my God, and I must admit --- a little fist pump for some Girl Power! Because this truly is a story of strength, faith, family, and a will to live. I am forever changed by the message in this book.

Book Review
I liked the length of the book and that is was written toward all types of readers, even children. Would be a great book for our school system. The lesson it betrays for all of us to learn, that we should not take anything for granted and love each and every precious day. Be thankful for what we have, because it can be taken away from us at any given time. If you do not know that God is real by the end of the book, you will. It feels like the story is grabbing you and you want to help her. Would like to see this story as a movie.

what a hard life this poor child had
This was a compelling book. Such a story about the work camps in Vietnam using their own children. They were so cruel, yet shesurvived and was able to come to America as a refugee, what a hard life this poor child had, yet came through it all and later was able to go back to ]her country to witness to others. wonderful book!

A MUST READ!
This book will open your eyes and renew your faith. This heartbreaking, inspirational story will leave you in awe of what Siv survived and will renew your faith in God. I turned the last page with a mixture of emotions---horrified at the evil of man, saddened that the author had to endure so many horrors, and yet proud and grateful of the courage and faith she has in telling her story. She is a true testament to God's grace and blind faith.
