for big, big fat fat cats
Our big tabby uses this each day, a few times. It's nice and big, and he even likes to get on top and sit on the little circular rug part (washable and removable). We removed the little bell-ball. It did come with a slightly damaged base (paneling starting to come off), but we taped it (our cat doesn't mind), and although this is a sturdy unit, it is not weighted, so we use 2 15-lb dumbbells to weigh down the base, so our cat can really get his claws to dig in without knocking it over. We got rid of our 2 other smaller, cheaper (cardboard? yuck) scratching devices, and he just loves this.

Good Quality & Sturdy!
This post has a solid base, very sturdy & a flat piece on the top so my cats can perch on the top too. The carpet around the post is holding up very well. Good quality and it was easy to assemble & my cats love it! I bought our fist one about a year ago and just ordered one more because the first one is still in good shape & it doesn’t make as much rubbish as the rope ones.

Nice scratching post; works as designed
Update: Almost a year and a half later, I'm buying a new one of these to replace the one our cats have used heavily every day. They finally managed to tear one section up enough to warrant replacement, though the unit itself is still solid, and most of the surface is still good (except that one spot). We did have an odd experience, though: When we first got the scratching post, we rewarded our cats with treats (actually, healthy dry food) for using it. They quickly started using it to get our attention, and it became the place we'd set any treats down for them to eat. Once the one section finally started fraying, the small strands from it drifted down, and the cats ate some. We saw those in their poop, thought they'd gotten worms, and took them to the vet unnecessarily. They're fine, and that's probably a risk if you feed cats by any scratching post, but I thought I'd mention it in case it helps anyone else diagnose a problem. :-) Overall, this has proven to be a very good scratching post. This time, we're buying the bed, too, to see if our younger cat will like it.Original Review:I bought this while training our cats to use a scratching post, because our old one was short and light, and the cats would sometimes get a claw stuck and end up carrying it with them in their attempts to get free. Eventually, the carpet started pulling away from the core, and I decided it was time to get a new one. I chose this one despite some warnings about its smell, and it's been working fine for months now.It had a very mild scent when I opened the box, which quickly dissipated and which I probably only noticed because other reviewers had me a little paranoid. I sit right next to it when working on the computer (I work from home), and I'm sensitive to chemical smells, so I would definitely notice if this one were a problem, but it's not. It's taller and heavier than the old one I was replacing, so the cats can stretch upwards when they scratch, and it stays in place nicely. In fact, it's strong enough for our younger cat to climb up the side of it onto the perch - something he frequently does when I'm absorbed in a meeting and not paying him enough attention. (He puts on a good show by climbing up, reaching down, and pulling at the toy to make it ring. My coworkers are very amused.) When I eventually need a replacement, I might get the bed option for him.BTW, for the many reviewers who've complained that their cats ignore scratching posts, it's definitely possible to teach them. With our current two cats, I started by putting treats on the base of it to get them interested. Then, I gave them treats whenever they scratched it. After they got used to that idea, I started alternating treats with petting and verbal praise (in which I repeatedly used the phrase "scratching post" so they'd associate those words with the actual item). Whenever they scratched anywhere else, I'd tell them "no" firmly and then more gently tell them to go use their scratching post. The older one has the concept completely at this point and now uses the other scratching posts in the house, too; I haven't seen him scratch the carpet or furniture in months. The younger cat still occasionally scratches something else, so I might try an approach that worked really well for a cat we had many years ago: I'd tell her "no," pick her up and take her to the scratching post, set her down there and hold her paws while mimicking the scratching motion and praising her enthusiastically, take her back to where she was scratching and tell her "no" while mimicking the motion there, and then return to the scratching post. I still remember the "lightbulb" look in her eyes when she abruptly understood. For the remainder of her lifetime after that, she'd go to the scratching post whenever we were in the room together, scratch it joyously while looking at me, and preen while I praised her. Scratching is natural cat behavior, and they get upset and confused if they're yelled at for it, but you can definitely turn scratching into a positive interaction for both of you.

Cats are starting to like it.
We use an inexpensive square burlap wrapped pole for years, the cats LOVE it. I ordered this one, instead, because it did not have a fake fur wrapped base. So won't collect cat hair.It has a round pole, is 3' high, assembles easily. The sisal is a woven thick mat around a round pole. It feels different from our old pole.+ it will take longer for the cats to tear it up.+ there are many sisal mats sold, so I may be able to fix this one when it is torn to shreds.- the cats really LOVE that they can shred to burial on the old one. It makes them really happy about using the scratch pole.

One of my favorites cat scratchers
I really like this scratcher. It’s stable, even for my 15lb kitty. The sisal is just tight enough to keep my kitties coming back. I have only two negatives. One is that the fabric covering the vertical seam on the sisal mat on the post shreds easily and becomes slightly. Second, the post is not reversible because there are two screws on the base and only one on the top. This means that I can’t extend the life of the post when the top becomes too shredded for the cats to scratch. They won’t continue using it at that point. Even so, this is my second purchase and I will purchase again. A replaceable post would be a nice option.

My cat loves this!!
The first one I bought lasted 4 months. My cat used it so much and loved climbing up to the top perch, that it basically came apart at the seam. Bought another one when I adopted a 3-month old kitten. He loves it, too! I put their toy mice on top of the perch and they both love climbing up to get them!

Cat Scratching Post
We and our cat, Spuda, love this scratching post. Spuda loves scratching on it, as well as, playing with the dangling ball.We purchased this item, in November, 2022 and it still looks like new. It is very well-made and is great with his scratching. He also likes being "Cool Kitty" by sitting on the top. Thank you.

cats like it!
There was a slight chip on top of the base for the scratcher. But it wasn't something that was that big of a deal and I can cover it up with a colored furniture marker. Other than that - it is a nice height for grown cats - they get a nice full stretch when using it. I like the material around the post - it seems like it will last a lot longer than the standard rafia-string-wrapped posts. My four cats took to it right away. There is a small circular platform on the top of this post but so far, none of my cats has any interest what-so-ever in climbing all the way to the top. I am pretty sure a frisky kitten would love to get to the top. My 4 are just too old to think much of it.

Very sturdy
I was disappointed because on the little cover with the ball the material is not attached to the elastic so there is a hole, which is why I didn’t give it five stars. Other than that it is very sturdy, and a very nice size so the cats can stretch.

My cat loves this!
Easy to set up. My cat got super excited as I was putting it together (literally started rubbing on it and rolling around excitedly… she never does this lol) and started scratching on it as soon as I put it up. She has four other scratchers that she never uses but took to this one right away!

Griffoir
J’adore ce griffoir!!! Semble de bonne qualité. Hyper facile à assembler et Une bonne hauteur pour que mon petit chien ne puisse pas déranger le chat.
