Q: I have an older receiver that only has speaker connections for the surround speakers. Can the input handle the speaker output from the amp?

Yes--I have the same setup from my Onkyo home theater setup. I use the rear surround speaker terminals and wired to the input of the BIC 'transmitter'. On the 'receiver' side of the BIC unit, you must connect powered speakers, or output to a separate amplifier/speaker combo as the BIC wireless receiver does not have a amplifier built in.

Q: Is there a standard speaker wire option? I want to connect to an amp and my rear speakers

If it is a powered speaker, it should not have regular speaker connections (I.e. binding posts or spring connectors) it should have RCA connectors or DIN plugs or something of the sort. It will also have a power cord for the internal amp.

Q: have two subwoofers, do I need to buy three of these? (Transmitter + 2 receiving units?) What about if I have 1 subwoofer and pwr rear srrnd?

I haven’t been able to connect to surround speakers, however 1 device should support 2 sub woofers

Q: What range of frequencies can it transmit and receive? For example if it is 20-20,000 Hz then a sub woofer might not receive frequencies below 20Hz.

According to the manual, it is 20Hz-20kHz.
