Product Description Since earning a 4-star review from Rolling Stone and scoring a multi-format hit single ("Barely Breathing") with his self-titled Atlantic debut, Duncan Sheik has emerged to become one of today's most acclaimed singer/songwriters. The New York-based Sheik shifts to a more band-oriented expression, characterized by bracing guitars, stronger drums and lush string arrangements. Features the hit songs "Bite Your Tongue", "Alibi" and "In Between". [Note: This product is an authorized, licensed CD and is manufactured on demand] .co.uk "Barely Breathing," the hit single from Duncan Sheik's 1996 debut, remained on the charts for a record-breaking 55-week spell, but his follow-up album is far from being the sequel to those tortured love songs. This time Sheik visits his art-rock influences with an honesty far more brutal than emotional. With the studio as his playground, he toys with layers of strings, meticulous arrangements, and that familiar, almost haunting voice to create songs--like "Nothing Special" and "Bite Your Tongue"--that say as much about Sheik's own backlash against his romantic image as the larger social issues he's addressing. Humming, laced as it is with anger, is refreshing in its bite. It's not an easy first listen, but that's the whole point. --Rebecca Wallwork

Brilliant - The Immense depth and feel to every song..
I purchased this album after hearing the song 'That says it all' on a movie soundtrack. The album is worth buying for this brilliant tune alone, and yet you are given 10 other depth filled accoustic tracks to also savour. Absolutely brilliant album.

Sheik offers sweet, smooth moods
I loved Sheik's debut album. There's something comforting about his watery voice. On his first album, he knocked me out with Barely Breathing and the enchanting She Runs Away, but Sheik offers something different on Humming. I consider this album one of my classics. Sheik paints a drury portrait of life just out of the sun's warm reach. It's a step just outside the realm of peaceful optimism that sends the listener into a state of thoughtful self-reflection. Sheik's voice is sweeping, biting and occasionally sardonic in its tone and scope, and I never get sick of hearing it. It's just so surreal to listen to someone I can relate so easily to. I actually enjoy the simplicity of Sheik's vague philosophizing. Besides, to a certain extent, isn't that what we all do, all day?Favorites of mine here are In Between; That Says It All; Everyone, Everywhere; Nothing Special; and House Full of Riches. Regardless, Humming is a load, play, and eject piece of art... there's never a reason to skip around. Beautiful.

Duncan Sheik strikes again...from a different angle
Duncan Sheik's newest trial may throw those who loved his breakthrough self-titled album for a loop. However, those who know and appreciate Sheik's diversity will also realize that he's just returning to his roots - more soul-searching, melancholy type of offerings. Duncan is clearly at home with his heart on his sleeve - and his retort on his tongue. It seems as if he's used his long-awaited success from "Duncan Sheik" to really put forth the type of music that befits him...Bravo for Duncan! This album is a true treasure. It's not for the fans who look for him to do many different variations of "barely breathing" on one album...True fans should appreciate the fact that his favorite style is moody, but also that as an artist he's allowed to change his spots when it befits him. Madonna can do it stylistically, so Duncan should be able to do it musically. Sheik wants people to know that he's a popular artist with very personal feelings and ideals...nothing brings this clearer to home than the ninth track on this album, "nothing special". He's not a jack-in-the-box...He's an individual who is making his thoughts - and his heart - heard. Buy it...put it on...listen to the glorious melodies and intricate arrangements. After a while, you'll love this album more than the last.

Amazing sound I have found
Duncan Sheik's voice has amazed me for a few years now, I heard a few of his songs when a friend was playing this, he really had no idea who it was it was just a cd his wife had bought and he felt it was a little too weak for his taste. I myself listen to a huge variety of music, now I know you hear that all the time from people but I really do, I own loads of Jazz, Blues (mostly harmonica stuff), DMB (i give dave one of his own), ska and funk (bob marley, red hot chili peppers and sublime), classical (well you know what that is), and my favorite, loud alternative (I can go as far as KoRn and NIN, I like the bands like POD, Saliva, Puddle of Mudd, Nickelback, Default and INCUBUS most of all though). Anyways lets get back on track. After I listened to some of this cd I was totally interested and I bought his first 2 cds, the self titled debut and Humming. I like the self titled but Humming is more consistent in the type of sound and his voice wasn't drowning in the Orchestral stuff. This is just an amazing cd and Duncan really knows a lot about what music is. very emotional music, it brings a lot of bad memories because I used to listen to this stuff when my GF had broken up with me. But now I have a new GF and everything is cool, I still listen to his work and it is less depressing :)
