Nine Goth Dolls With Personalities to Delight Adults
GOTHIC KNITS is a fun collection of nine knitted dolls, each with a different personality, that are tricked up in black Goth fashions, spiky hair, and painted/embroidered Kohl eye makeup.I probably won't make any of these dolls, but I love them all: Patience (with the scarred neck); Amorosa (in her flirty dress): Julian (another Beetlejuice!); Sebastian (a vampire Don Juan); Beatrice (a Caribbean lovely); Violetta (a vampire in red and black that could easily be a dominatrix); Mercy (a merciless dark damsel); Gwendolyn (the temptress in red net stockings); and D'Anton (an aristocratic, caped musketeer). The book cover photo shows Patience and Violetta. The dolls are 20 to 23 inches tall. They are intended for adults and older children, so there are male and female torsos. The torsos are not "anatomically correct", but the female torsos have bosoms. The doll bodies are knitted from DK weight yarn, on US 3 (3mm) needles, to insure a tight gauge that will conceal the stuffing. The bodies are knitted in parts (arms, legs, torsos, and heads) that are sewn together; the necks are reinforced with soda straws. Garments and other details require US 3 (3mm), US 6 (4mm), and US 11 (7mm) needles, plus a US 0 or D (3mm) crochet hook. Commercial doll wigs are used for the hair in the models shown, but unraveled wool or variety knitting yarn can also be used. Some of the facial features are painted with acrylic or water-based paints or fine-tipped marker pens.Obviously, there is a lot of work required to knit, assemble, and add the finishing details to each of these dolls. But for the right person, any one will make a terrific gift! The minimum knitting skill level required is probably highly adventurous (or highly motivated) intermediate.

A must have for your knitting library.
I just love Fiona McDonald's Books. I bought 3 for Christmas and have so far not been disappointed. Her patterns are very clearly written and her designs are absolutely beautiful. I will come back and post photo's when I finish. I am starting with the two on the cover. Can't wait to see what she does next.

The patterns are very easy to read and the dolls are beautiful. I enjoy just reading this book for its eye candy and will enjoy making the dolls.

Wonderful Dolls to Knit
I'm a big fan of the author Fiona McDonald. I have her BABES IN THE WOOL book so that is why I decided to purchase her GOTHIC KNITS. I'm having so much fun knitting these dolls. These dolls are not your average dolls and that's why I love knitting them.

Even if I ever knit these dolls, I love to look at this
These dolls aren't your usual childhood cuddly but rather, your childhood nightmare. They're beautifully done, and more for the collector than something that you'd let a child play with.

Totally Hooked!!!!!!
After knitting a Debbie Bliss Teddy for my granddaughter, thought I'd like to try knitting some more 'toys' but none of the patterns out there inspired!!!Found this book after searching for gothic novels--- what a surprise. The dolls on the cover looked so good, I thought I'd give it a go, not quite expecting that the result would be as good as those on the cover.I started with Mercy, and couldn't believe how good the instructions were, even down to shaping and forming the dolls bodies and faces. The possibilities for customising your dolls are endless. and half way through Mercy I was hooked. It's also brilliant that you get male dolls in this bookFor those of you out there with a large stash of odds and ends of yarn, embroidery silks and felt these dolls are really economical to make!!!!!I'm so pleased with the results that I've bought Babes in The Wool and can't wait to get started. My friends though are going to be really ticked off at me when they receive one of these for birthdays, xmas etc!!!!!

Awesome Dolls
I bought this book a couple of weeks ago and have already knitted three of the dolls. They are very easy to knit, stitch together and stuff. Their clothing is really cool and quick to knit. My dolls are without hair and faces at the moment and I am waiting for a creative moment to finish them but even if I do not finish them they look awesome as they are. These patterns can be tweaked to turn gothic into anything you want it to be, so don't let the gothic word stop you from buying this book. I might even turn one of my dolls into The Black Swan ballerina..... who knows so many ideas!

Looking forward to making these
I haven't had time to start knitting these yet so I can't comment on how easy (or not) the patterns are to follow. But the designs are really beautiful and there are instructions on how to shape the bodies and embroider the faces. The male dolls even have six-packs and a couple of them bear a resemblance to Johnny Depp - bonus! Have thought about amending the pattern and knitting a life-size Johnny Depp type one to keep me company- might take rather a lot of wool though!

Gothic Knits for all
As an avid knitter and a goth at heart, this book has proved to be such a joy - I have now knitted absolutely everything that the book offered by way of patterns, and am now into yet another round of knitting the same things again! This time for me!!!!!!! At Halloween, my gothic girls and boys, proudly sit in the windows, staring out at all the folk going past and are very proud of the admiring looks that they receive!!!! Do I think this is a fabulous book of patterns??? Oh YES!!!!!
