Having purchased this book for 99p I was pleasantly surprised how enjoyable it was and how much I liked the developing characters.It was such a shame then that towards then end the author fell into the amateur author's trap of thinking it wise to try and buy emotional reader connection in exchange for a character cull.Of the four main characters the author kills one and lessens two more with the loss of an eye and a hand respectively. Until that rushed and pointless plot twist I had intended to purchase the series at full price, now I have just lost interest.A rookie mistake and a thoroughly disappointing ending (for me at least) when so much promise had been shown.

Exciting adventure set in a dark, cursed world. A quarter of warriors, each with dark secrets, battle the forces of evil. Bloody, brutal and gripping, the pace never slows and the action doesn't stop. That said, each of the cast undergoes profound changes spurred by their experiences.A fantastic tonic to the wearing norms of chosen ones, prophecies and benevolent gods. If you like your fantasy dark and gritty you'll love this.

4 characters come together by accident and find themselves on a mission to destroy an army of mutant monsters and the woman who controls them The son of an author, his family burned for heresy, a monster hunter and his sister, and a famed and feared general trying to atone for past deeds. It comes to a head, and they all are damaged in some way. Interesting journey of solid characters, will be reading more in the series

Great read simply brilliant how the characters were bound together, plenty of action with a bit of humour thrown in, great story can't wait to read the next in the series utterly brilliant

I liked this book it had plenty of killings with murders aswell. It even has a jolly good story line with brill characters and everything. Quality, it kept me from mindlessly walking the streets .

I lived this book! The characters are likeable, the story is great. I book the rest of his books before I even finished ths one. Highly recommended!

Loved this book. Great story and characters. If you like dark tales then this is one you should read. A genuine new talent in adult fantasy.

Each step is planned and written in a way that is refreshing. Not the usual heroic, piece but brutal and excellently written. Looking forward to reading the series.
