A huge critical and commercial success, this brilliantly engaging comedy stars actor, singer, poet, writer and award-winning playwright Michaela Coel as a religious, Beyonce-obsessed young woman who is fast realising that the more she learns about the world, the less she understands! Coel's performance won her the British Academy Television Award for Best Female Comedy Performance in 2016 with her writing for the show earning her a BAFTA award for Breakthrough Talent. This set contains both series 1 and 2. Set on a tough London estate, Chewing Gum follows 22-year-old Tracey Gordon as she leaves behind the innocence of teenage dreams and attempts to navigate a brave new world of love, sex and adult confusion! Review: Anarchic, Provocative, Rude and Challenging - These episodes are a showcase for Michaela Coel's creative talents, since she is both the writer and principal actor. Do not watch if you are prudish and easily offended. There are some tremendously funny and sexually explicit scenes. Behind all of it is Coel's acute power of observation of real life, in its wild and crazy extremes. For example, evangelical Christianity is lampooned wonderfully and is based on Coel's actual experiences, and the reality of her experiences as a black kid of Ghanaian parents growing up on a London housing estate are all drawn upon. I suspect that some of the other themes addressed in the series, for example the fetishisation of black women by white men, are based on Coel's experiences too. She is a provocative writer, poet and actor. A force to be reckoned with. I am sure Tracey Gordon is just one of the depictions Coel will be famous for. Also some very talented supporting actors make this a great viewing experience. Susan Wokoma shines playing Tracey's ultra-religious sister Cynthia, as do all the cast in making this a great show. Post Script: (05/11/2018) Now that all eight episodes of the series 'Black Earth Rising' have been screened on UK TV, which featured Coel acting impressively in a serious dramatic role, it is worth noting that those people newly aware of Coel's talents only through 'Black Earth Rising' will find 'Chewing Gum' a totally different experience. Review: Fantastic series - Brilliant series ,came very fast

Delighted!!!!!
I absolutely loved this show and was hooked from seeing the original E4! Advert in September 2015. I remember thinking how interesting and different it looked, so I set my planner to record the series and I didn’t look back. I am totally delighted this is on DVD. I can now delete those beloved episode recordings from my BT plus box. Series one is my favourite of the two. I remember my excitement when the second series was announced; and it didn’t disappoint either, although the finale is a little strange and seems rushed to me. But I still love it. I appreciate this may not be to everyone’s taste, but if you like fast paced comedies, with a somewhat dim witted and innocent female lead, then it should give you great laughs. The cast is delightfully mixed, featuring a great set of familiar faces From Eastenders (Maggie Stead, Tanya Franks) and other great tv shows. For copyright reasons; There are subtle changes to the soundtrack however, and the replacements don’t quite have the same impact as the original.

Chewing Gum! Great show, basic DVD
First of all, it is absolutely brilliant to have this show finally on a DVD release. If you're one of the few people, who have not seen this show, I'd describe it as very crude, random and basically hilarious. But, I don't think it would be everybody's cup of tea, you have to have a certain type of humour to enjoy it, basically rude and random. Now, my few nit picks on this DVD release. Don't get me wrong I'm thrilled to bits to see that this show has finally got a DVD release and I can add it to my collection, but the release is very basic. First of all, there are no special features whatsoever, no audio commentaries, no outtakes, no all behind the scenes documentaries, no photo gallery, nothing except subtitles. There has also been a few music changes for example, we don't hear the Beyonce song 'we are the girls' in the first episode and there were a few more changes as well. I know the reason why this was changed because of copyright laws and I respect that. I just thought I'd mention all the ins and outs of this DVD release. I also find the cover art very basic as well the picture of Tracey on the front cover is also the artwork on both discs series 1 and 2 and I just feel that because this show has been out a couple of years now and it took so long to come out, they could have made just a little bit more effort with it altogether. But, they are my only complaints and like I say, I'm very pleased to see this is finally out on DVD for people that would like to have it on a home media release. Hopefully if more episodes come out in the future, it won't take so long for them to be released on DVD.

Such a great show
This show brings back so many memories. This was one of my favorite shows when it came out on Netflix back in the day. I’m so happy I was able to get a copy of the whole thing since it’s no longer on Netflix I bought a Sony region free DVD player I’m in the United States And it’s playing and working just fine so happy I have this. It’s an investment to buy a region free DVD player, but it is so worth it.
