Thames Television is often regarded as British TV at its best. It's comedy stars were the biggest names of the time that are still revered today.Just one look at Frankie Howerd was enough to bring the house down and in the 'The Howerd Confessions' you see the comic genius at his best. The six different playlets, supposedly relating to episodes from Howerds's past, saw Frankie play characters in his full over-the-top inimatable style. In his 'Confessions' Frankie reveals how his George Formby impressions helped win World War II; tells about the time when he NEARLY got married; lets slip about how he came to be in possession of a stolen grandfather clock and then discloses his saga of Howerd the Criminal and Howerd the Private Eye.

Five Stars For Frankie Howerd Lovers
If you are a lover of Frankie Howerd sit-coms , then you will love this series. What you get here is the typical 1970s Carry-On type Howerd Comedy, the difference being, that he is not playing the usual fictional character from history, but a fictional version of himself, but, as always, a heterosexual version of himself. The supporting cast is made up of well known comedy character actors of the time - if you grew up in the 1970s you will recognise the faces, even if you don't recognise the names. Basically, if you were a fan of Howerd's TV Shows "Up Pompeii", or "Then Churchill Said To Me", you won't be disappointed with The Howerd Confessions

A Bargain!
I knew nothing about this show beforehand but I have to say as a Frankie Howerd fan I loved watching him going through his paces. Once again Frankie as always engages with the audience even stopping other actors for a laugh or a comment just like he did in Up Pompeii it's great fun to watch a seasoned pro at work. My favourite episode was the hospital episode but they are all good, plus it's an absolute bargain. Time to embrace Frances once more missus!

Frankie Howard doing what he does best. Although I rate this series a little lower than Up Pompei - probably because the other players do not reach that level. Still, for this price it deserves a place in every Howard fan's collection.

Not quite up to Frankie's usual standard.
I'm not too happy with this series of six 24-minute episodes. This isn't Frankie at his best. I thought the first three episodes were just silly and they didn't really make me laugh. I actually switched episodes 2 and 3 off early and I wouldn't watch them again. However, episodes 4-6 are much better and they are much more the Frankie Howerd and the humour that I was expecting. I will keep this DVD for the last three episodes as they are worth watching again sometime.

Tara King in The Avengers in Confessions 4 what a versatile actress she is also Joan Sims in Confessions 1 is fantastic as the hospital Matron
Revisited this and I spotted Linda Thorson, Tara King in The Avengers in Confessions 4 what a versatile actress she is also Joan Sims in Confessions 1 is fantastic as the hospital Matron. I know its corny but they just don't make them like this anymore LOVE IT!

Classic Howard
Excellent DVD material and well packed . However only buy this DVD if you like raw Frankie Howard and his sexual innuendos. Totally inappropriate and cheaply made but absolutely classic stuff which I sadly missed on its original airing. I was glued to the screen.

My Grandmother Was Right
I always thought Frankie Howerd was comedy for my grandmother's age group until I watched "Up Pompeii" and also the film "The House In Nightmare Park".That was when I changed my opinion and realized that when he had good writer's he could reach out and amuse any generation. This set shows that to be true.(And any "Avengers" fan will be most most impressed with the episode featuring Linda Thorson, oo err missus titter ye not.)

Typical Howerd.
If you like Frankie Howerd then you will enjoy this. Without wanting to spoil any plot, there are plenty of typical Howerd laughs. A good offering from the days when sitcom was king.
