The Dreamers

I can't stop!
I have bought this book three times. I love it so much, and the second I find someone who may be interested in it, I give it away. I want everyone to read this one. I need to stop doing that because I love it so much, I NEED it for my own collection.I'll save you my play-by-play analysis of the novel, but just trust me - if you're interested in it at all, you'll love it. It's such a wonderful story. I believe the world is far to consumed with the idea of something as "taboo" to just look beyond societal opinions and preconceptions and just live the life you were given.

The movie was pretty close
A very quick read. I had just watched the movie and was obsessed with it. The book is okay. Definitely not his best work, however.

A Dream
This story was as intriguing as the movie with a few differences. Of course with the book there is more third person narration which explains the characters more and helps the reader gain insight into their crazy world.

Half & Half
This novel is a finely made sandwich with a piece of rotten meat in the middle. Adair's prose is solid and beautifully crafted enough that it got me through even the most self serving, pompous parts of the story. I was all on board for the dreamy, incestuous threesome part of the book, but then suddenly the characters were eating cat food, spewing vomit at each other, before finally smearing excrement on themselves like Indian war paint, and I had to finally admit that a level of art house funk had been achieved that I couldn't swallow.

AMAZING!
Been looking for this. Love it. I couldn't put it down once it arrived but it did take a while to be shipped.Other than that what's to complain about?

Great, quick read!
When I saw the movie I wanted to know more about where the story came from. I found that is was written by an author named Gilbert Adair who had originally wrote a book that was more racy and perverse titled, "The Holy Innocents" that I would love to read but cannot find it anywhere else but on the internet. "The Dreamers" is a toned down version of "The Holy Innocents" but is still worth the read. I read it in about a day. I really couldn't put it down once I started.I would recommend it to a friend, but not to a grandmother of course ;)

Captures a lost time.
Having seen the film by Bertolucci I was curious to read the book with screen play by the author. As always film and book are not the same although this one follows it closely but with a differnet and I think better ending.I enjoyed the book reminding me of other French writers, Cocteau and others.

Où finit le théâtre? Où commence la vie?
One of my all time favourite books (and movies). I've read it in three different languages: German - English - French. I know it by heart and still can't stop reading it. It is the only book that makes me cry every time I read the last couple of pages. It's not just a love story between three young people it's more than that. It's a book about friendship, about secrets, eroticism, a triangular relationship and love. About the student riots in Paris during 1968, the cinema and the idea of creating your own little world. It's happiness and the love and loss of life.
