I use this book for one of my jobs selling Indian textiles, clothing, art. It has been invaluable in helping me to get a grip on the vast information I am trying to glean and remember. It helps me to inform clients about the uniqueness of their item and also the manner in which it was crafted. It adds to my and their appreciation of hand crafted items. It arrived in excellent condition.

I bought this because I was writing emergency text panels and captions for a museum exhibition. Sadly, because of the heavy snow and subsequent lack of mail, the book arrived too late for the work, but I have since spent many a happy hour looking through it, and feeling irritated because all the information (and a lot more besides) which I had spent three full days researching on the internet was all there, easily accessible, beautifully written, and, more to the point, exquistely illustrated.

Je me rends compte en le reprenant et connaissant bien l'Inde et le textile à quel point il est urgent de conserver ces ouvrages de référence d'un monde traditionnel qui va disparaître; les tribus vont se moderniser, se sédentariser, abandonner leurs traditions.C'est une belle collection de photos qui montre l'Inde rurale et traditionnelle.Le néophyte aura l'impression de faire un voyage en Inde et un voyage dans le temps. Le spécialiste trouvera ici des notions importantes.Les différents chapitres explorent le matériel textile, les différentes techniques, puis les régions une par une.Pour les brodeuses: vous ne trouverez pas ici des modèles à proprement parler, ni des points schéma par schéma, mais une source d'inspiration extraordinaire.Livre pour les amoureux de l'Inde, livre pour les créatrices textiles, les marchands de tissu, les antiquaires....Et les curieux!L'auteur est aussi celui de WORLD TEXTILE, un "must" bourré d'idées, de représentations... (je ne sais plus si je l'avais commenté ici!)

I had already seen a copy of this book and decided that I would like my own copy to use as a reference source. It is informative and the coloured illustrations have been a useful source of inspiration.
