I used a cutter to trim out the excess screen after fitting it on the screen door using the rubber spline. After removing the old screen and rubber spline, I laid the screen door flat on the garage floor (the grooves with rubber spline facing up), then laid out the new screen on top of it, using the metal roller, I pushed the rubber spline on the grooves of the screen door to fix the screen, and using the cutter, I cut out the excess screen (slowly and carefully) using the door frame as guide. Would also help if you have a plastic ruler to help make a straight cut and not accidentally cut through the fitted screen.
