Brightwell Aquatics Refractometer Calibration Standard 60 ml

I just got this to double check that my refractometer was calibrated correctly. I had another brand of calibration fluid and wanted to make sure it was still good. This fluid confirmed exactly the same as the other one. And a better price than the others.

I advise everyone to be very careful using this brands solution for calibration. I took this liquids reading as good becuase everything else from this company is good. Well that was a massive mistake, it told me my water salinity was extremely low, so I added salt over a couple days to raise it to what is supposed to be 35ppt according to the solution. Well my black storm clownfish are no longer white and black, they are now pink and black(no more white). My anemones are extremely stressed and elongated, one has been losing tentacles over the last week. My turbo snails have died, and all of my coral (hundreds worth) except for one has completely died :(I couldn't figure out what was going on. Today I decided to buy a bounce mushroom from a local guy I know. Well I decided to test his salinity before adding them to the tank and it showed super low on my refractometer. I called him and he checked his water with his Milwaukee tester and it shows as a perfect 1.026. So I calibrated my refractometer to his water. The Brightwell Aqautics solution tested at 43PPT!! That means my water has been at 43PPT for the last week and some change, I feel sick about this and can only imagine how my tank inhabitants feel.

This is a life saver - literally. I ordered a new refractor and without this could have killed everything by drastically changing the salt % in my reef tank .

Calibrated my meter with it made a minor adjustment and then checked with distilled water and was spot on.

I used this product and it proved the solution I had for years had gone bad. My old solution was off by .004. Despite properly shaking both old and new solutions the refractometer was off by a specific gravity of .004. I read 1.021 on my old solution and 1.025 with my new solution. This product states to replace your solution after time. They are right to recommend this. Also, for newbies...remember the 35 ppt Salinity = 1.0264 on your specific gravity. The left side of you refractometer is for specific gravity, the right side is the reading you set to 35 after 45 seconds.InstructionsShake product well before using.Clean Refractometer prism slide with fresh distilled water.Dry completely with soft clean dry cloth.Place several drops of Brightwell Refractometer Calibration Standard fluid on the slide.Wait 45 seconds and calibrate to 35 ppt Salinity.

Advertised as 35 PPT and it was spy on, verified against 4 refractometers and 3 electronic readers. Brighter ll is always as advertised, unlike a few competitors that can be all over the map

Incredibly useful and repeatedly used to re calibrate my refractometer for my marine tank. Most hobbyists suggest using RO for calibration which is nonsense and doesn’t work! Shake well each time before use 👍
