Good and Solid. Does the job. last for years. Does not come with any Scutches
Very Solid, Good wooden handle with great balance in hand. Does not come with any "blade tips" you have to buy them separate, Very easy to locate them in, and a sideways knock out to replace

Slot for scutch chisel tip was not aligned correctly
This is my review of the Spear & Jackson Scutch Hammer that I purchased in May 2024. The product was sold by and despatched by Amazon so I was surprised to receive a product that looked different to the one pictured in the listing. The main problem with this product is that the slot for the scutch chisel tip is not perpendicular to the shaft. This will make it difficult to use this tool effectively. (Note it does not even come with a scutch tip despite being pictured with one on the listing)Other observations:The head is straight whereas the product image on the listing shows a curved head like an anchor. The head is more crudely formed than the product listing image.Odd that the Spear and Jackson logo is printed upside down to the genuine hickory label.Does not seem to be the best quality handle - the grain seems fairly pronounced and on the image with the warning message on the shaft, you can see a knot up near to where the head meets the shaft. I thought that hickory had a finer grain and that they would not use a section with a knot in it near to a critical point.I have attached some images that I have taken for you to view as they can better explain. If I was in a shop and picked up this tool to appraise it prior to purchase I would have returned it onto the shelf and not purchased it, therefore I have likewise returned it to Amazon and cannot recommend it.I hope that this review is helpful to you.

Good scutch for the price point
Very well balanced, nice shape to the handle for my hands, not overly heavy unlike my faithful scutch. The gloss Finnish to the handle isn’t very practical for a walling hammer however, a mistake almost every company makes unfortunately. Definitely worth ruffing up the surface with a bit of 80 grit.

No Scutch - But one shown in product picture.
Nice balanced, decent quality hammer. However, BIG disappointment doesn't come with a scutch even though one is shown in the picture.Tempted to send it back but have contacted S&J to query the missing part.

Shaft snapped
I was happy with this tool and did quite a bit of work with it but after about an hour's use the shaft snapped where it meets the head. Looking at the split of the wood it seemed the hickory was of a poor quality. I've re-shafted it and now obviously the handle is a bit short but it's at least back in action. Nice hammer, shame about the quality of the wood.
