Great typeset, and combo book!
Great typeset! For those into classical music the Schrimer's library is probably one of the best ways to access hardcopy classical music. The combo three book set is a great way to have a great collection of scores at your finger tips. The font is clear and reproduced from scanned plates but is done at a very high quality and there is no obvious degradation in quality. I would recommend this to those who want an alternative to IMSLP and a tablet!

A step before The Well Tempered Clavier
Work through this score before advancing to the Well Tempered Clavier .I find the French and English Suites to be not as technically demanding.Even easier than the 2 Part Inventions .A confidence builder along the way .

Some of the most interesting Bach compositions
I think the French Suites are some of the most outstanding pieces Bach composed. After having been away from the piano for 15 years, I again have an instrument and one of the first pieces of music I purchased was this volume. I am starting with Suite VI, which I studied in high school. I may learn the rest of the Suite or I may skip around. I have no knowledge of the English Suites but the chance to purchase them packaged with the French ones was ideal.

Great collection
Good binding and price. Clear typeset with good spacing for quick sight-reading. Hopefully this newer binding holds up better for these larger volumes than schirmer's traditional cover.

Bach French and English suites - a good value edition - with some caveats
This is a good value collection of all of JS Bach's French Suites and the English suites. You'd pay a lot more to get them elsewhere, and you'd have to buy separate volumes, so the Schirmer edition is a bit of a bargain. But there are some issues. Firstly the binding is so tight that I couldn't get my copy to lie flat without using some extreme persuasion. The volume is printed well, but the layout is a little tight, and sometimes you'll be squinting at the notes. Then there's the edition itself. This is mostly taken from Carl Czerny's edition, hence it has things like metronome markings and expressive additions such as crescendos, diminuendoes, etc. These you can ignore, but it's as well to know that Bach didn't write for an instrument that could vary its volume, and the metronome hadn't been invented. So these are editor's additions, and not those of the composer.Nevertheless this makes no claim to be an Urtext edition, and it's certainly a lot better than printing out endless sheets from IMSLP. The pieces themselves are, of course, superb, and I'd say that these are for moderate to advanced players: there's bound to be something here to suit the ability or taste of most pianists.

Excellent value, and fingerings good
I've only had it a short time, played through some of the French Suites quickly and the fingerings as far as I can tell so far are fine. The only problem is that there is no advice as to how to play embelishments, trills etc.I think that because of this i'd go next time for the competition.

Fine, what you would expect.
