Ida Engvoll (The Bridge) stars as Rebecka Martinsson, an unconventional lawyer in Stockholm with a successful career and a handsome boyfriend. When a childhood friend suddenly dies, Rebecka returns to her remote hometown above the Arctic Circle for the funeral. Although the death had been ruled an accident, Rebecka finds evidence of murder and contacts her friend in the police force, Anna Maria Mella (Eva Melander). Together they hunt for a killer, but what they uncover might shake Rebecka to her core. With more cases to solve, and Rebecka proving herself an asset to Mellaβs police team, Rebecka must decide whether to go back to her big-city life in Stockholm or stay in Kiruna and confront her past. Set against the stark, stunning landscapes of northern Sweden, these haunting adaptations of Γ sa Larssonβs award-winning crime novels feature sharp writing, complex characters, and searing performances. Swedish Language with English subtitles.

Girl from the bridge and hot
Great show then came season 2

pretty good series, can't wait for the cost to be more reasonable on S2.
Rebecka looks better in the series than she does on the cover, it's a mix of old history, where we are today, and what people will stupidly do to cover up the past.

GREAT CAST, INTERESTING ACTION AND DIALOGUE
A GREAT CAST OF INTERESTING CHARACTERS ARE TEAMED UP AND THEY FILL OUT GOOD, SOLID SCRIPTS WITH INTERESTING ACTION, A WIDE VARIETY OF MURDER MYSTERIES TO FIGURE OUT, GREAT DIALOGUE BUT IT IS IN SWEDISH WITH SUBTITLES BUT I DIDN'T MIND SINCE THERE'S GREAT SCENERY, SNOWY WINTER SCENES, LUSH SUMMER SCENERY, WITH LAKES AND MOUNTAINS WHICH MAKE GREAT BACKGROUNDS FOR THE ACTION AND YOU GET A GLIMPSE OF WHAT LIVING IS LIKE IN A MEDIUM SMALL TOWN IN NORTHERN SWEDEN..

Good series, well produced and performed. I would certainly recommend it.
Of course nothing's perfect and I would have done a few things differently. I couldn't warm up to the gal who played Mella. Rebecka's boyfriend in Stockholm (Mans) is a dead loss....they just don't match. Pohannen (the pathologist) should have had more air time. When he and Rebecka hook up in a non-romantic friendship in episode 4 the series really comes alive...they play off each other perfectly. If you aren't familiar with the Martinsson series then be prepared for a little chicanery....Rebecka has no problem playing outside the rules, making up stories, stealing documents, and breaking into houses. But Ida Engvoll is so gorgeous and full of hell that you soon forgive her.

Read the books first.
I first met Rebecka Martinsson in the Asa Larsson books - SUN STORM, THE BLOOD SPILT, etc. and loved the 5-book series. The TV series, Rebecka Martinsson, seems to be loosely based on Larsson's books. While not as compelling as the books, I still enjoyed the TV series. The acting was great, the setting (Kiruna, Sweden) was cold and foreboding, adding to the darkness of the plots. Rebecka is a complicated character with a painful past. She teams up with Inspector Anna-Maria Mella (another character who seems more interesting in the books than the TV version) to investigate the crimes.I would love to see a Series 2 but Larsson has only written 5 Martinsson books thus far, so I am not sure what the future holds for the TV series. For those who want more Rebecka, the movie "Solstorm" (based on the first book SUN STORM) was released in 2007 in Sweden but I am not sure if this is readily available for viewing.I would recommend you read the Larsson books if you enjoyed the TV series.

A MASTERPIECE OF A FEMALE JACK TAYLOR. LOVED IT πππππ!
Jack Taylor is the story of an ex-cop of the Irish Guard who has a weekly detective episode through his unshaven, disheveled clothing covered up by a long wool trench coat that he refuses to return to "the guard". A lovable, honest, flawed main character. Rebecca (forgive my spelling) is a city lawyer who finds her hometown roots when forced to solve a local murder. But she is a Swedish Jack Taylor! I know, I know, how can a beautiful actress portray a flawed chainsmoking Jack Taylor (she starts smoking). She does. SHE DOES BIG TIME. An absolute tour de force! Draws you in, grinds you up and spits you out. I loved it. I loved both Jack Taylor and Rebecka Martinsson. Absolutely tv serial drama at its finest. Characters with punch, flaws pouring out and high crimes to be solved. A MASTERPIECE. BUY IT. BUY IT NOW! πππππ

Moody Mystery in the Arctic North
Good story, compelling acting. I thought the series was well done, and the cinematography excellent. Ida Engvoll is wonderful as the tormented and disillusioned prosecutor who is caught between two worlds. Her traumatic childhood colors her life decisions, and even in the end, she is unable to commit to the life she so desperately wants. I am hoping season 2 will continue to build her character and provide enough good stories to keep the audience engaged. Overall, this was a good binge-worthy series. It is dark and moody, and with subtitles, something is lost in translation, but nonetheless, it is worth the time to watch.

Rebecka Martinsson Series 1
Ok stories/plots offset with some excellent acting. It was great for binge watching. Episodes 7/8 did take some really dark turns compared to the earlier episodes and there was the dreaded cliffhanger so I found the ending quite unsatisfactory. I can only assume that they're setting up for a season 2 but who knows if it will even be made, let alone be available in the US. It was nice to see Kari from the Finnish Bordertown again.I may give the books a try as I found Rebecka and Mella to be very interesting characters.

It has a very good story line, interesting to see how people live and work in a very cold environment, Ida Engvoll brings Rebecca Martinsson to life I have bought the whole series

Very good Scandinavian crime series.
Great crime solving episodes, you will fall in love with Rebecca and her independent spirit. One episode ends very sadly though with the totally unnecessary death of an innocent young man. That was the darkest moment of the series.Th pathologist was also quite good.
