Our 284 Premium Model Woodman's Pal did not and still does not go unnoticed by the U.S. Military. This model was standard issued from the early part of World War II through Desert Storm. G.I's and the U.S. Army Signal Corp relied heavily on the Woodman's Pal for land clearing operations. At the time of the Vietnam War, the Woodman's Pal was designated the "Survival Tool, Type IV" and was issued in air crew survival kits. Gripped as either an axe or a machete, the Woodman's Pal can clear trails and brush and perform the tasks of many tools such as machetes, axes, hatchets, trimming saws, pruning scissors, knives, bow saws and sometimes even chain saws. With one Woodman's Pal, you can trim bushes and small trees, prune, clear or blaze trails, clear brush from lines, remove unwanted growth and build shelters or duck blinds. As All-American as you can get, Woodman's Pal tools are formed from the highest-grade American steel, melded with the best American ash wood. Enthusiastic Pennsylvania craftsmen do all manufacturing of the Woodman's Pal. Their precision and attention to detail are proof of their commitment to our USA Pride an motto: Build it once, Build it right.

I would recommend putting the manuals in a heavy water proof bag ...
This is NOT an exact replica of the WW2 era issue kit, but it is a very well made blade and kit. The manuals that come with it are 3" x 4.25". They are reprints of the original manuals and are very legible. The double sided stone is decent and is the correct size to use on this blade. The sheath has 2 small pouches on the inside to store the stone and manuals. I would recommend putting the manuals in a heavy water proof bag first. The zipper is a heavy duty brass YKK type. I recommend you lube it with wax immediately. A few hours after getting it in the mail, I had oiled it and went out to the woods to do some test cuts with it. All I have to say is that this is my new woods tool instead of a military issue machete. I will be ordering more of these for my son and daughter and to put in each vehicle/bike. Very sturdy, versatile American made tool. I highly recommend this for every day use on the farm, hunting, camping, fishing, survival, etc. Don't leave home without it.

Solid unit overall
Quality unit and will work well for what I need. AND it’s made in the USA. Not a Chinese knockoff.Reason for four stars instead of five; hook edge sharp but the straight edge would be lucky to cut soft butter. Not sure why there is no sharp edge on the main blade.Nothing a stone can’t fix but have to take to the time to sharpen it before I can use it. Shouldn’t be that way.

You should get this.
This is just like the real deal.. I love it, living on a Florida farm, it is as good as butter. If you have ever had and liked a Hatchet, machete, ax, or cane cutter, then you will love this tool. This is one of these best kept secrets. Got to have one. It should be part of everyone heavy kit

Super gift for the outdoorsman! This is the real deal, accept no substitutes. Cheap tools are never a bargain. This setup has a nice sheath, and a stone for sharpening in the field. Read the manual for effective technique for cutting brush and saplings.
