De-shedder is a keeper ~ Says the Cat with long hair
I've got two cats; a long haired that loves to be brushed and a short haired who absolutely hates being brushed. The brush part of this gadget does not work on my long haired cat. The bristles are way to short coming in at a smidge over a quarter of an inch. But there's a slight bend to the bristles making them a little shorter. My cats hair is two and a half inches long. However, the brush does work on my short haired cat. Though it's extremely difficult to brush her for more than a minute without two other people's assistance. The de-shedding rake works like a charm on my long hair. She loves it. The whole reason I got this brush was for the de-shedding tool. The one I had was getting old. I don't think the rakes were as sharp as they had been. My cat no longer like the old de-shedder. I'm chalking it up to the sharpness since she loves this new one. I didn't attempt to use the de-shedder on my short hair for fear of my life. The gadget is a little top heavy and the switch to change from brush to de-shedder is hard to push. If feels like it almost gets stuck. It could be when the transition of the two brushes takes place. The plastic casing feels slippery. I put a piece of traction like tape around the handle. Problem solved. The hair is easy to remove from either brush. Or when you switch between brushes the hair automatically pops off either brush. There's a rubber hook at the base of the gadget for hanging purposes. Since this was originally for my long haired cat I'm docking one star for the bristle brushes being short. I don't know if the bristles would stand up to dog hair but the de-shedder brush most definitely would.

Brush for long and short hair.
So I loved the idea of being able to choose the type of brush by pushing the button up or down. However when using the short hair pin brush on the bottom the top dematting bush kept falling out despite the button being in the bottom position. It could easily be pushed back up but overall just irritating. If you plan to use the top dematting brush or both brushes then this issues won't be a problem for however if you need just the bottom one this might be an issue you want to consider. I don't really think this brush is worth the almost $20 price tag but that's just for me, the issues I had might be a positive for some making this a great value. It's also very lightweight plastic. I have a personal preference for more heavier brushes so once again another personal preference individuals need to consider when purchasing.

Great Pet Brush
This is an amazing 2-in-1 pet brush. One of our long hair cats is prone to mats and this brush gets them out with very little pulling, so very little pain to the cat.Slide the button all the way up and it pulls out the undercoat teeth. This gets all the way down to the undercoat and combs through it with ease, picking out all of the mats. Then the brush function sleeks and lays the hair down naturally. Our cat loves this brush and actually comes running when he sees us pull it out. Great brush for any long haired pet with a thick undercoat. The handle allows you to hold the brush naturally with no twisting to get the right angle. Highly recommend!

Rake pulls on the fur and the teeny brush won't securely lock in place. Did they even test this?
I have some poodle mixes that need some consistent grooming, so I thought this looked a little more ergonomic with a nice handle to endure some grooming sessions. The handle does feel good in the hand while it might get a little slippery on smooth plastic with wet hands. The middle button position is the closed position for rake and brush, the button pushed forward opens the rake feature, and the button pulled backward opens the brush. I tried the rake first and realized the rake is not bladed to cut through undercoat or mats - it is simply curved, 1-2mm steel hooks the simply tug through the fur. I ran this through my pup's longer hair on her ears and it promptly caught a snag and tugged on her ear. I tried a few more time supporting the base of the hair to absorb the pulling on her and, while it ran through a few times, there was more pulling than grooming happening. On the the brush, so I slid the button back and the rake went up and the brush bristles came down. My first impression was the brushing area is an extremely small area of the device head. The bristles are tipped with plastic to protect skin from bare metal. I put it through her short body fur a few times and it seemed to be performing better than the rake, then things went really smooth all of a sudden...I realized I was simply sliding the flat plastic head of the device along her fur. She seemed to be enjoying this mode the most! Did I accidentally flick the switch, closing the brush? I opened and locked the brush again and after a few more strokes without touching the button, we were back into pleasure mode after the brush slid back up. I fiddled with the button and it seemed to work without a hitch, but putting any pressure on the brush bristles would pop them right back up into the head. I tested the rake/hooks and they stayed in place with pressure applied (they actually reacted by getting stuck open and only closed with the button after wiggling them). I tried brushing a few more times to see if I could get it to stay open by adjusting how I brushed. It self-closed each time. I assume it would work OK if I kept constant rearward pressure on the switch, but there are better brushed out there that won't require me to go extra just to make them work. This looked like a neat combo tool, but it ended up being more of a failed elementary school science project - the kind where the adults didn't pull the student across the finish line with a functional product. I can't believe this never happened to the engineers who made this - QA is lacking and they are only after you money - don't give it to them.
