Bought it but haven't gotten around to reading it yet for various reasons and when that happens I will update the review accordingly. But for now I will render a review to stop the emails from here to do a review. It promises to be a good read from what I have gathered as I just finished a book on Howard Hawks which led me to this purchase as it wasn't available at the library. She seems to be a very interesting person and her style was what 'Slim' the character in 'To Have and Have Not' with Lauren Bacall was based on.

Slim Life
This was well done for what it was--the story of someone who married her way into prominence and money. I read it after rereading Truman Capote's "La Cote Basque" in Unanswered Prayers, because the character of Lady Coolbirth is supposedly Slim Keith. It was interesting to get a peek behind the curtain a few times--how on the surface her marriage to Howard Hawks looks cool, because he transformed Lauren Bacall into a facsimile of Slim, as an apparent paean to his love--but then you see how emotionally cold he is; then how she steals Leland Hayward away from his wife, only to lose him to a better geisha, Pamela Churchill (Harriman). The book is a cautionary tale, providing good reasons why women should develop careers of their own and not be dependent on a man.

Proves that smart women really no how to get the man and still be on top.
Seems that the men needed the #metoo movement when these women where on on the constant move of moving up the ladder. The men never had a chance , if only younger women didn't put out first or show off the goods. Women today and cry babies and need to shut up.

Salinas California Girl Makes Good
The autobiography is so honest it didn't matter that it was a beat up paperback. I love it !

Real story
This is a true story of a socialite and Truman Capote. The chapter on Capote was worth the price of the book, otherwise it did not hold my interest for long.

so good!
this was a great book. read it straight thru. only disappointment was at the end. it seems she got tired of writing about her life, so she just wrote a quick last chapter and left things hanging in mid-air. i would have liked to have known where she was, what she was doing, how her life was in her later years. sad that she didnt let us know.

Fascinating but ultimately unsatisfying
An interesting glimpse into a little pocket of Hollywood glamour and history with lots of good stories about Hemingway. I found Slim herself somewhat lacking in self knowledge. Still, an interesting read.
