Another Good Read
I have followed the many adventures of Katie Maguire and have thoroughly enjoyed reading them all. I thought that Dead Men Whistling was a very good read, spoiled by the authors use of Irish words and phrases which left me struggling to understand the story. Hopefully when the normally excellent Graham Masterton writes the next story in this series he will just use plain old English words .

Katie Maguire at her best.
I love the Katie Maguire stories based in Cork. You know that it will involve crimes and events way outside of most other detective books. This story being no exception. The team are faced with some horrendous crimes the likes of which they have never encountered before. Katie is steadfast and determined to find out who is responsible. Along the way there are a lot of casualties. Can Katie Maguire reach the truth and find those responsible?Katie' s personal life is not quite so involved in this story. Hopefully more so next time.Highly recommended.

A compelling series.
I find myself compelled to read the books in this series. It was disappointing when I preordered the Kindle edition and later got an email saying that it was going to be several months late, with no real explanation. Had the book not been written? However the book when it arrived fitted in well to this series of books. The characters were mostly in previous books. Surprising in a way as so many people die in these books. There are a lot of twists in this book. Some are expected, but one near the end is particularly sad and another is just unbelievable, even in a fiction book.I already have the next book on preorder so I must basically be content with the books.I wish books in long series were numbered though as I'm not always sure if I've read all of them, or read them in order.

with a great deal of graphic pointless sex scenes that added nothing ...
Unless you are going to include a glossary at the end, l see no point in including so many irish phrases or words. The plot became ridiculous, long drawn out, with a great deal of graphic pointless sex scenes that added nothing to the story. I don't remember the earlier books being this difficult or irritating.

A cracking good book
I have read all the Katie Maguire books and eagerly anticipated this one. I was not disappointed! Katie has had some difficult cases and her personal life can be a nightmare and this book is the grimest to date. But you wouldn't be reading this kind of genre if you wanted romcom or cosy mysterys, so I am a little puzzled at a couple of the reviews. It is a fast paced well detailed book that clearly involved considerable research. Hat's off to you Graham and.......................when's the next one? With this book you have achieved every writer's dream. Leaving the reader wanting more!

Less Irish words please
I have read every one of the Katie Maguire books, and really enjoy them, although im getting fed up with the constant Irish words used throughout. im Scottish, but i dont write everything down in gaelic! its actually spoiling the book. Mr Masterton does not need to do this, he is a fantastic author. but i find im skipping through this book. I really hope he takes note of this when starting on book 10.

Gritty crime
Another entertaining entry in the Katie Maguire series that Graham Masterton seems to be pumping out at will. This is another fairly gruesome novel that betrays the author's history of horror novels. Cosy mystery it is not. Anyone paying attention will roll their eyes on a few occasions, either because of the dumbness of some of the Garda or the some of the daft plot points. I nearly knocked the rating down to 3 stars on that basis, but I read fiction to be entertained and Masterton comes up with the goods. If you like your crime to be gritty and don't mind a few stretches in credulity, you won't go far wrong with Katie Maguire.

great story,
ok i have just finished reading the Katie Maguire series of books by Graham Masterson and i found everyone of them a great read, these are books that you cannot put down once you start, they are great crime, very Horrific and not for the Faint Hearted as the way the story is explained it can be gruesome but take nothing away from the way the story is written, all centres around Katie Maguire who is the head of the Police force and is a top class Detective that does not take any bull, her life is up and down and blends in with story very nicely and everyone around her. this is a must read.
