One of the finest Soprano voices of the 20th century
It is wonderful to find this gem of a recording featuring the incomparable Regine Crespin. It's a bonus that the original master tapes belongs to the Decca archives, always top quality. Regine in recital with a pianist is never disappointing, her perfect diction and interpretation of lieder in perfect German or rich in depth when she tackles the French repertoire. In spite of her major stage work remains on the big global opera scene - notably Met, Colon and Covent Garden and in the recording studios, Regine's grasp on finer more expressive text and passages remains one of her finest quality. Also watch out for Decca's (or is it EMI!) DVD showing Regine live in recital and watch the incredible use of her voice and the expressions - a lesson to any young singer. For fans in the know, one only has to remind everyone of Karajan's Brunhilde or Solti's Rosenkavalier, two recordings (of others) that remains un-surpassed to day.
