Bluebird Houses 2

Three years ago I purchased four of these Bluebird houses (aka nesting boxes) and I recently purchased two more. They are good value for the money and I have had Bluebirds using them every year. They weather to a nice light gray over time, but I have not detected any rot. Squirrels did partially chew off the critter guard on two of the boxes, but this year I pried off the damaged guards and replaced them with new guards I made.This winter while cleaning out the boxes, I notice that on some boxes the screws had almost pulled through the mounting boards. This happened because the growing trees increased in diameter over the years. My solution was to remove the boxes and re-attach to the tree using rust proof deck screws that where twice as long as the original. I also installed the mounting screws with one-half inch protruding from the board so that the tree can grow without pulling the screws through the mounting board. With that lesson learned, when mounting the two new boxes, I used the longer deck screws and did not screw them in tight.

While, the bluebird houses are for the most part sturdy and attractive, my husband had to place glue in several areas that looked like holes would develop in the top of the wood. He was concerned the birds might not nest if the inside of the houses got wet. The glue did the trick and we look forward to enjoying more bluebirds on our property.

A friend and bird expert warned me that it could take up to 2 years for Western Bluebirds to find my houses. I put up one of these houses in the yard and within a week I had a family move in. I can hear the babies as mom and dad come and go with their meals.Very happy with the quality of these houses. Clearly the bluebirds are happy as well!

Beautifully made and already had the screws in place to hang. They smell wonderful, and I'm sure we'll have years of pleasure watching birds nest. They are replacing an old chickadee house and a blue bird house. With a raccoon and squirrels around I hope the protection built around the hole in front will keep them safe.

I did not like that the top is not hinged so you can observe the bluebird on the nest. I have another one that does open and the mother is not spooked by a top view. Otherwise this one is nice.

the two bird houses where easy to hang up, great they came with screws. I have birds nesting in them with in a week of hanging them. they are well made and look good in my yard. Good buy.

Loved these birdhouses but bluebirds did not. Ordered 2. The male bluebird marked with a twig both houses to show mate. Saw them going in and out of the houses but didn't nest in either
