You’ll see it spelled several ways because many names are associated with it: a location (the port of Al Mokha in Yemen); a product (coffee shipped from the port of Mokha); a blended drink of coffee and chocolate (mocha); a coffee from Ethiopia (Moca), and a specific variety of coffee having small leaves and fruits. With Maui Mokka, you’ll be getting cozy with the 1,000 year-old varietal that gave Maui coffee its notoriety. The natural processed Maui Mokka tied for first place in the commercial division of the 2014 Hawaii Coffee Cupping Competition! With little to lose, we thought, "Why not?" As we integrated with the community of farmers and sampled coffees from around the Big Island, we were surprised by the variety and quality that goes largely overshadowed. We wanted to change that. In July of 2013, one of our Puna coffees won Grand Champion in the Hawaii Coffee Association's Statewide Cupping Competition and became the first non-Kona or Ka'u farm to do so. Today, we serve on the board of directors for the Hawaii Coffee Association - Hawaii's largest organization serving all islands and industries, from cherry to cup.
