I was initially very impressed when this incense holder arrived. I have another high-end Japanese incense bowl, and was in need of another for my home office. This bowl is very well made, and the finish is beautiful. The base is slightly crooked if you look at it from the side, so it sits slightly uneven, but you don't notice it at all. It is the perfect size for using with my collection of Japanese incense sticks. And the addition of the bag of ash (made from rice hulls), was a nice touch.

This is a very nice looking ceramic bowl, it almost looks ancient or something. Quality is surprisingly nice, and the set also includes a 50g bag of ash to place in the bowl. Incense sticks (not included) can be placed in the ash so they stand up and burn cleanly, with all ashes from the incense dropping into the bowl. That's much nicer than the old incense stand we used to have, which just laid flat and had to be cleaned after each use. Another issue we had with the OLD incense holder was the dust blowing around when any breeze came by, or even just placing a book next to it – it would send the dust everywhere. But not this one. The bowl catches everything and keeps it inside, which is lovely. Love this! If you know someone who likes incense, this would make a fine gift.

The grey ash incense was natural and blended in with the ash, making it less noticeable and easy to clean. The incense sticks burned smoothly and self-extinguished when it reached the ash, which was very convenient. She enjoyed using the set to relax, connect, and meditate.
