The Breathable Thumb Stabiliser helps to protect and prevent thumb pain by supporting the thumb, without limiting hand movement. Metal side stays provide support and protection to the thumb which is maintained in a neutral position. The Thumb Stabiliser can be custom fitted using the Velcro straps around the wrist and thumb.By re-enforcing the ligaments at the base of the thumb, the Breathable Thumb Stabiliser can help to reduce the forces applied to the thumb joint and thus protect the thumb from injury. This can be very important during sporting activities where the ligaments at the base of the thumb are often damaged during a fall.

Excellent if you're happy to do a little "tailoring"
Following Manufacturers size guide I purchased the Medium device.I have found this beastie difficult to beat if you require total support for the thumb/wrist. It's well designed and constructed of lightweight materials but looks just a little too industrial for my taste and needs. In terms of fit, this support is really well thought out. The thumb sleeve fits snugly and is solidly sown to the main glove, the splint is stiff and well positioned to support the digit in a neutral position. The glove fits the hand nicely when fitted properly with the smaller straps and is constructed of comfortable, breathable material. Quality of materials and finish is good.I have worn this beastie on really hot days, obviously the palm sweats a little more than usual but not uncomfortably so. The open palm and back enable full use of the hand whilst constraining the thumb.Out of the box this appears quite "industrial" and although I could have used it as it was I had to make some modifications to ensure that it was totally comfortable: 1. Removed the large wrist strap (last fastening) to reduce the bulk - My wrist problems tend to be very close to the base of the thumb and up into the fleshy bit and I do not need too much in the way of wrist support so could do this without penalty, another user may have need of this strapping - it's not uncomfortable, just bulky. 2. Removed the label from the palm of the glove - Suppliers are entitled to advertise their business but this particular label could have been smaller and better placed (less intrusive). 3. Cut away part of the thumb strap - I found that this (as supplied) was too wide and it bit into the base of my thumb - this was the only feature that became VERY uncomfortable VERY quickly, I also wrapped a little sticking plaster tape around the newly shaped strap for additional cushioning. 4. Trimmed the remaining velcro straps to "just right" length to get rid of excessive flapping bits.I have noted some of the "poor" reviews that this device has received from a few folks, all seem to focus on the fit. I think it a bit harsh to slam a mass produced product of this nature just because it doesn't fit like tailor-made. Using only sharp scissors, I have easily tailored one of these devices such that I am able to wear it comfortably all day without loss of its prime function. For less than a tenner I'm impressed.

Very comfortable after removing velcro strap around wrist !
This is the second one of these that I have bought to wear for "best", as the first one was getting rather worn and grubby (so I may keep it for gardening). I need to immobilise my thumb from time to time to help recovery from wrist tenosynovitis, and find this brace very comfortable for a few hours, though not to wear all day. However, I have completely removed the extra long velcro strap which goes right round the wrist on top of everything else, as it makes it difficult to get the brace on and off quickly, and the effort of threading it through the buckle and fastening the velcro actually makes my wrist more sore ! Also I have trimmed the other velcro straps to fit.

Does the job, but slightly uncomfortable.
Only issue was the first strap was short and if it didn’t have the second longer top strap, it would not stay in place. Was slightly uncomfortable, but not sure if this was how it was supposed to feel to restrict hand movements.

Not sure I would get another.
I was desperate for a support which was smaller and lighter, so I bought this one. I has good pionts and bad ,one of the bad ones was the fact that the edge of the velcro securing the thumb ,rubs on the webbing between my thumb and hand and is therefore uncomfortable . The large wrist fixing strap sat right on the painful part . That said it is made of good material ,light and not too restrictive to movements but still supporting. I ended up trimming the straps to my size and removed the large strap, which I can reattach so it shuts away from the painful area. With a bit of tweaking this is a good product . The breathable fabric does keep your hand comfortable and the inside is padded and nice against the skin.Pity about the fact I had to alter but can't be helped. It is doing the job now

Good balance of price vs support
Was recommended a thumb spica to support my arthritic thumb joint. There are dozens to choose from - this one is a good balance of functionality and support with price. It's a bit bulky, so can't really be worn under a glove unless there's lots of room (I wanted to use it skiing). Washes well. There's a LOT of velcro left over so you might want to trim it.

Exactly right!
I wanted to wear the supports for a few days to be able to give a more honest and accurate review. So now I have, and I can truthfully say that they are the best supports I've ever had. I read the reviews and Paul T's excellent tips to make the supports more comfortable were just what was needed. My biggest and most painful problem was my thumb and the muscle going to the wrist. It was excruciating pain all the time but this support is gentle, soft, but firm enough to support without constriction. I too cut the wrist band off as it really wasn't necessary for me, but I have it incase I might need it again. Five stars feels inadequate to award these supports. They are superb, in my view.

pain relief.
the straps are very long but just cut them down to size, the strap for the thumb was very uncomfortable so had to cut it to shape, but otherwise it does the job brilliantly.

and was not very happy about it
I've posted before about this item, and was not very happy about it... Soon after I was contacted and after a quick chat a different product was suggested to me. I got it already and used it to work yesterday. Brilliant. Spot on! Exactely what I needed. Allows me to do my job, supporting my wrist and thumb with confort, keeping the mobility. I'm very thankfull for the suggestion, and happy with the outcome.
