Absolutely Live [DVD] [2007]

I have seen George Benson roughly ten times in concert covering a period of fourteen years and would have seen him more given the opportunity. This performance is based on Benson's concert format used for over ten years, apart from the BBC Big band backing him in this concert.This DVD perfectly captures Benson live and displays the diversity of his musical talent through Big band (Beyond The Sea etc..), jazz (Breezin etc..), pop (turn your love around etc..) and funk (Give me the night). Added bonuses include an interview with Benson, individual band member interviews and the chance to see Benson perform with Joe Sample from their 'Absolute Benson' collabaration.It is quite obvious that the actual concert included allot more tracks that Benson usually performs, which didn't make the DVD probably due to format constraints (the only thing missing unfortunately). Hopefully, these will be available someday, but you never know.I would conclude that this is the only visual media offering I have ever seen of George Benson that you can view on your home TV. A must if your a fan and an insight to his talent if you are inquisitive. I noticed one reviewer wasn't happy with the sound quality. Mine plays and sounds excellent and I only have nicam TV sound and a budget DVD player.If you are a music lover, you won't regret this purchase as it's a wonderful musical experience.

Having spent the beginning of my working life in Germany, in the early eighties, I was bought up on George Benson. I've owned a cd of his for years. The experience of watching this DVD has taken my love of his music to another level. The concert has been filmed in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast. The sound and ambience is fantastic on surround sound. As the concert unfolds the tempo gets faster and faster and as Turn Your Love Around starts to play, the audience starts to get up and dance. I must admit...I did too in my living room...but dont tell anyone! The mood is infectuous and I challenge you not to want to move. The crescendo is On Broadway and you will not be disappointed. I've always loved this song...but to see it played live and to listen to George singing..just awesome. I can't recommend this DVD enough.

DVD with sync problems in stereo sound, although the show is superb. He's perfect and it's an all in one George B. show.

Wow, I really can't get enough of this dvd , superb example of George Benson's complete master of vocal & guitar excellence , I play this dvd frequently ,the atmosphere from this concert is amazing , His own band , Joe Sample from "THE CRUSADERS" are exceptional , complementing Georges style perfectly & The "BBC BIG BAND" accompaniment is second to none. What a shame it was never released on music cd . However I do have a copy of "Absolute Benson" with some of the same titles as on the dvd , well worth a purchase!ABSOLUTE BENSON

This is a fabulous show. George is not at the top of his singing or playing powers here , but he is still fabulous. That is now good he is.I have been lucky enough to see him many times and George and his amazing band are always wonderful .

In this concert, George Benson shows many sides of his talent, from singng standards with a big band and full orchestra backing, to playing superb jazz guitar with his own group. His playing with guest piano player Joe Sample, and his solo performance of "Danny Boy" are further examples of his mastery of the guitar. This concert also includes some of his popular ballads.

Being a fan of George Benson since the early 80's, but only having seen him live in concert once, I decided to buy this DVD, which has a good mix of instrumental and vocal tracks from George. His versatility is appealing to all age groups and this DVD captures the appeal of this great jazz guitar player very well. My favourite track in terms of sound quality and execution by George is Masquerade, followed closely by In Your Eyes. Other exceptional tracks are Breezin and In The Ghetto. If you like George then you'll certainly enjoy this DVD; it's one of those which is nice to have on your shelf when you fancy a change. I only gave this 4 stars, not due to Georges performance, but because the sound quality is a little inconsistant and particularly towards the end when he performs his popular tracks (such as Give Me The Night) is the sound quality of poor quality, almost as if parts of the recording equipment were no longer performing properly (or maybe George was moving around to much on stage to be properly picked up). In comparison to, say Diana Krall, the recording is definitely second rate.

This is one of the best live concerts George Benson has ever done. This DVD really gives you the experience of being there in person. This concert was recorded live at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on May 28th, 2000. It is a beautiful venue, and the camera work of the video production crew was superb. Not only does George have the opportunity to express himself in "big band" form, but he did some amazing versions of his old classics as well. A fantastic added bonus was the appearance of Joe Sample, who collaborated with George for a couple of songs in the middle of the concert. This DVD is a "must have" for George Benson fans: another well done concert of his to add to your collection. George may be a bit older in this concert, but he still has the charm and the vocal range he had in the 70s and 80s. The bonus features on the DVD are a pretty pleasant surprise as well.

I appreciate great musicianship. Of course, that is exactly what George Benson, his band, guest pianist Joe Sample, the BBC Big Band, and the Ulster Orchestra provide on this DVD. Both the visual quality and the sound quality are very good. I particularly like the jazz pieces like "Breezin," "Deeper Than You Think," and his version of "Lately." The latter is quite beautiful! I play that particular track a lot. His singing of "In Your Eyes" is wonderful! Real nice. Lastly, his popular dance-type singles are a lot of fun. The audience really gets into it. One woman even comes up on stage and dances with George Benson. I have one final thought about this DVD. This DVD introduced me to Joe Sample. I was so impressed by his talent that I purchased a CD of his music. I highly recommend this DVD for a good time!
