Should last longer than the old design
The redesign of the brush end and gearbox housing from the original 500 series gear box prevents fur/hair from tracking into the bearing seals, it can still happen but only if you seriously neglect to clean it. Along with the new vacuum box which actually sucks most of the fur/hair off the brushes I'm hoping that the gearbox will last a lot longer than the original.
