Handpicked: You can't make a quality tobacco pipe without first selecting the trees that they will be carved out of. Our pipes are always made out of the highest quality wood your money can buy. Giving them all a unique grain and elegant finish that can not be replicated. Handcrafted: The name Pipesmith is derived from the word Gunsmith. A sign of quality and commitment to our craft. Our Pipemaster carves every single pipe that we sell by hand. Handheld: Of course a spin off of cell phones. Our clever way of stating that our company will only sell handheld smoking pipes. You will never see Pipesmith selling bongs, glass, or any other material pipes. We believe pipe making is a art, and wood is our canvas!

Tobacco Pipe -- Rosewood
Tobacco Pipe -- Pear Wood First, tobacco pipes are principally made of three materials - briar, rose or cherry, or fruit woods (like apple, pear, etc.). If you are a smoking novice or have limited disposable income, choosing a briar pipe can be pricey. So, when I selected this rosewood pipe, I didn't want to spend googubs of currency for a pipe going into the rotation. This pipe is just like pictured. It has a pleasing feel and weight in the hand. It is a large bowl; a filled bowl lasts me 35-45 minutes. The stem fit is secure, no fear of bumping it on the table and the bowl dropping. The bit is a fishtail; seems large, but it is easily clenched between my teeth. I was concerned about the weight of a pipe, any pipe really, in my mouth, but it seems light enough when I've been talking with a lit bowl. The pipe will make a great gift for a pipe smoker from someone who appreciates the smoker. It is a good purchase. I've smoked it with and without 9mm filters. 9mm filters fit snug, not loose like some pipes you might find at the discount tobacconist - God Bless the WWW. Why a filter? The filter reduces the moisture, the bite, tars, & nicotine. You do know that you could always reduce these factors by carefully selecting your tobacco and its storage?! Well, maybe you kids didn't get a proper education growing up -- can't learn everything in the video arcades and drug dens! But you've got the sum of human knowledge in your hands, but don't have the good sense to ask...except for the latest nonsense in the Fake News. Do I need a filter? Do your research, apply the scientific method. You might find you don't always want or need a filter. There are many tobaccos and leaves available on-line. Get to know the variety of leaves, blends, cuts, toppings, etc. The WWW has virtually everything. The days of "Lucky Stripe or n'thing" are long gone! A pipe should have a day to rest, this pipe will go into the rotation. So, ask "do I need another?" Second, I haven't experienced a hot bowl. IMHO if the bowl is hot you're confusing a pipe for a cigarette. Cigar and pipe smokers don't inhale; and I don't mean like Bill Clinton. If you need a nicotine hit, get yourself on the patch. As loathe I am to criticize, you might check your smoking technique. Like sex, if you're not enjoying the experience, just maybe, you're going it wrong. Maybe, you're too embarrassed to ask for help. Mate, you need to be more discriminating when selecting your friends! Or be less shy. If you're looking for something other than a tobacco pipe, you might think about whether you're a person who can enjoy a quiet conversation, a comfortable wing-back chair and a book, sitting on the porch swing looking at the sunrise / sunset, or a silent breakfast nook before the kids rise. If you can't, well para-sailing on the Lake is still available and Call-To-Duty might be more your line. If you've got some years, experience and maybe seen more than 4-corners of a patch of land, maybe you'll be thinking...and in the [shared] quiet a wisp of smoke will part your lips from your favorite blend, and you'll hear your goddess smile and ask if you've finished the funnies... Yep, a good purchase. ...and if you get up to this corner of Woes-Be-Gone, bring your pipe. I'll save you a seat.

Happy I bought it!
This pipe is a great smoker. It has a beautiful finish, and a very classic look. It is almost an Oom Paul style, gracefully curved, and it hangs well from the mouth. The bit is tough vulcanite. I received all of the extras as advertised. Also if I break it, I haven’t lost a small fortune. Overall, I am very satisfied with it.

Excellent pipe!
This pipe looks and smokes great. Has a pretty good-sized bowl to allow for a longer smoke depending on how much you pack in. No issues so far, and the stem is designed to allow the use of a typical 9mm filter, should you want to do so. Comes with a pipe tool and a cork knocker. I highly recommend this pipe to someone looking to start pipe smoking, you won't be disappointed.

A very nice upgrade
Very well-designed, and has a nice, smooth draw. This is a definite upgrade over my former Meerschaum pipe. It came with a tamping tool, pipe stand and snuffer, which all work very well. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for an upgrade over the typical budget pipes available for $8-$15. Spend the extra $5 and get something much better.

Good pipe, little info
Didn’t tell me I needed filters, never got this kind of pipe before and didn’t come with any sort of instructions or suggestions. Handy packing tool is great. Storage baggy is nice. Pipe is lovely aside from the filters. Nice deep wide bowl.

Great Pipe
This is my favorite pipe. I agree with the other reviews. There is nothing more I can add. This is a great smoking, looking and handling pipe. It is now my number one pipe. I will be buying more pipes from the Pipesmith. I will say it again. This is a great pipe.

Exactly what I needed
Very nice. I needed a light comfortable pipe to puff on when hitting the 4x4 trails. This fits the need perfectly
