After trying several home remedies including screen on box fan, Ivory soap, Bleach in sprayer, yeast concoctions, and retail solutions including citronella candles, Off, and Spartian repellents, this thermocell backpacker is the cats meow. I started it about 45 mins ago for the first time. Got my easy shorts on, a few beverages, and my lawn chair. After 45 mins, I have one or two bites but that was before unit was fully performing. Granted I am on a covered patio surrounded by 3 walls, but I am impressed! I plan to add to this review later after I try it in the yard. This is an honest farmboy review and I purchased all products with my hard earned American dollar! OK....as stated...I moved after my first hour to "THE YARD"!!! As with the porch....I got 4 bites when first relocating. After about 20 mins...post activity has diminished but not gone. There is a very slight breeze so I placed the Thermocell upwind about 5' from me. That helps but doesn't totally eliminate the little f***ers. I will provide summary after I go in for the night. (And after a few beverages. I speak my mind freely...LOL) SUMMARY....this device is probably the best mosquito deterent I have found so far. It is pretty great in zero wind scenarios however sitting in backyard with a very slight breeze I received multiple bites...about 8 - 10. Am I disappointed? To some extent...yes. I expected a bit more in open areas like sitting in lawn chair in middle of back yard. Does it work....definitely...but only when wind doesn't blow the effective fumes away. I moved the device right under my legs nearly under my chair and it seems to work a bit better. WOULD I BUY AGAIN? YES As stated...this is the best I have found so far for repelling mosquitos. While not 100? Effective I would say it is 85 to 90% effective for me.
