Good investment !
After reading the mixed reviews I decided to go ahead and purchase the box set. I really don’t know what people expect from these sets.I recently bought the U.K. box set which also recieved rather convoluted reviews and thought it was terrific. The Bruford box is slick with a handsome design. It was not white with black letter as shown in amazon but black with gold lettering. I own a modest 5.1 surround unit. It provides good highs and lows at lower levels.I started with the venue life recording thinking if there are going to be flaws in sound it would be hear. I fell in love with the performance and sound. The surround mixes were equally as impressive. If your a fan this is a fine investment. By the way the U.K. box set is selling for close to 300.00 when I bought it was have the price.I see the same thing happening here.

These are NOT!!! A Drummers Solo Album, but, a Band just as GREAT as U.K.!!!!!!
Wish This Band Had More Albums! As a Fan of U.K. I Discovered Bruford, Don't get me wrong...I have been a Yes Fan since I Discovered A.B.W.H...So in 1989 I retraced and Bought Every Album They EVER DID!!! I was 18!Discovered So Much Great Music by all Members of YES....Still have my "YES UNION TOUR 1991" poster on my wall, Anyway, at 18, I only could get my hands on what was released lately, like Steve Howe Turbulence or the New Age Wakeman cds.Late 90's and an Asia fan and King Crimson and really thanks to Yngwie Malmsteen who covered "In the Dead Of Night" on his Inspiration CD, saw the song written by Jobson/Wetton, I said to myself, the same Wetton from Asia!!! Bingo!!! Discovered U.K.!!!!!One of my All Time Favorite Bands, then discovered the split Band, Bruford!!!! Classic Music with their own Sound, but, if you listen to U.K. there are many similarities, especially on the Live CDs of the U.K. Ultimate Collectors Edition, "Forever Until Sunday" for example! This Box set gives you EVERY ALBUM, Most Remixed by King Crimsons Jakko Jakszyk. Blu Ray Surround Sound! Unreleased "Live at The Venue" Demos for the Unreleased next Album!!!!Which I am Listening to again now by the way, a Nice Book, 8x10s, Mini Poster, mini 45 CD!?! And

Original stereo mixes on the DVDs.
be aware, original stereo mixes of first two albums, thankfully on the DVDs, have vastly better dynamic range than the new remixed versions. So play the first two, albums on dvd, the stereo remixes aren’t really great. However, the live at the Venue disc alone, makes this a must have.

Expensive, low resolution reissue
I agree with the prior review. The stars are for the music, which is excellent. Unfortunately Bruford and Jakszyk (remaster / producer) have chosen to provide the DVD versions in AC3 when many other bands (Jethro Tull, Yes), including King Crimson to which they both belonged, have provided high resolution stereo versions of remasters. Given that they had access to the original tapes, this is just lazy and/or greedy, since it makes the box set very expensive for the versions of the music on offer, and leaves an opening for yet another version (such as sacd, dvd-a, or online download) for yet more money.

Awesome music and musicians, but set is not essential, but still appealing in some ways.
Superb music, but this set is for completists and audio snobs. Do the discs sound appreciably better than earlier versions? That's going to be very subjective. To my ears, probably a bit better, but not in the way that some re-masters really open things up into a very different experience with music you already know pretty well. One of a Kind and Feels Good to Me get a 5.1 Surround Sound Mix and a new 2017 non surround mix. These sound good, but it won't be comparable to something like the 50th anniversary Sgt. Pepper revelations.Gradually Going doesn't get a new mix or 5.1 treatment. It is basically unchanged from the most recent Winterfold version. The Bruford Tapes was a 2 Track recording of a radio broadcast that never sounded that great, and it does seem here that may be a bit more listenable than it was before. That brings us to the completist side of things. You do get the ideas for the potential 4th Bruford album and a new (to me, at least) live recording of a John Clark era show (circa Gradually Going). The 4th album set is a bunch of idea fragments that don't for the most part give a real sense of how a song might've fleshed out eventually. Jeff Berlin is only on one of the 18 tracks, so it's basically moog bass from Dave Stewart and a "let's see where this might go" kind of flavor to things. The Live at the Venue show is on a sonic par with multiple Bruford boots that might've appeared on a Highland release or a torrent site. That is to say, it's not even on a level with the Bruford Tapes recording. Why Rock Goes to College, featuring Allan Holdsworth isn't included in this set is a bit odd, as it's probably more historically interesting than either of the live shows that are here. The booklet and individual cd booklets are nice and have good notes. There's a poster, band photos, and a certificate signed by Bill too. These are all kind of a poor man's version of what might be familiar to those who have seen some of the King Crimson boxes.I'm glad I've gotten this, but paid about $40 less elsewhere than the current Amazon price. Is this set in any way essential? I'd have to say no, but it is great music from a bygone era all in one place and that does have some appeal.

Should be much cheaper considering the mediocre surround sound
This is definitely for completists. The packaging is very nice, with a large box and booklet, and the stereo mixes sound great. The big problem I have, and the reason for only 3 stars, is the mediocre quality of the surround versions. Whether due to misguided cost cutting or ignorance, the surround mixes on the DVDs are only in Dolby Digital, which is not the best for music. Other artists, like Mr. Bruford's cohorts King Crimson, have reissued their albums with high definition DVD-Audio or at least DTS 96/24 surround and sometimes PCM 96/24 stereo mixes on the DVDs. There is plenty of room a a DVD for multiple audio tracks, especially with no video. To make matters worse, the format of the surround mixes is not mentioned in the item description. For the price, this set should have superior quality sound. Very disappointing.

If You Like Prog or Fusion Check This Out!
What a great box set. The remastered music sounds amazing and you get a lot of music. The three albums along with music from the aborted 4th album. You get a couple of live shows. But for me the highlight is the 5.1 discs. I have heard people slag them but I think they are very good. Only in Dolly Digital but again, sounds awesome. Maybe be not up to the Steven Wilson 5.1 remixes but stil great.Everything comes in mini fold out cardboard slip cases. Made of good material. You also get a book and more. For the price of just over $100 it’s a fair deal. You also get a a real Bill Bruford autograph that is on the limited edition tag (mine is number 18, very cool! If you can find this pick it up because it rocks!
