excellent book
This book has been very helpful for me to lose weight while breastfeeding. I had always been a petite 120 lb. woman until I got pregnant, and gained 43 lbs. I lost 17 lbs. the first month of breastfeeding after my son was born, but then I gained back 12 lbs. I was very frustrated because I have always been fit and healthy. I had been under the false pretense that I could now eat whatever I wanted and still lose weight while breastfeeding. Unfortunately this was not the case for me. So, when I discovered this book about eating well and losing weight while breastfeeding I thought I would give it a chance. The thing I love most about this book is that it makes it easy to customize a healthy diet for your individual goals. It gives you a healthy weight range for all shapes and sizes of women. There are so many diets out there that lump everyone into the same category and just say how many calories to eat, or to cut out fat, or to cut out carbs. This book explains how to eat the correct number of calories for your individual body size without cutting out fat or carbs (but rather eating everything in moderation). I also love the recipes! They are healthy and tasty. Imagine that. Quite contrary to the philosophy that if it tastes good, spit it out. I recommend this book to anyone who really wants to make a life change and get back on track to a healthy weight while making sure to eat all of the healthy nutrients that your baby needs.

Old fashioned but still has some good knowledge
This book is quite a bit outdated even still after a rewrite in the early 2000s. It does give great knowledge on the different nutrients that foods have and what you should be eating that could help your body through breastfeeding, however the weight is a little unrealistic. It recommends at 5'2 I weigh 110. Which is not bad, however I find that after weightlifting for years I prefer my body to be around 120-125. It recommends at 5'8 you should be 140. from your "goal weight" is how you are calculating your calories and then your activity level also plays a role in it.I am a personal trainer, and a lot of women misunderstand losing weight. They think if they lose fat, they will get the body they want, but in reality, they want to tone. To tone you need to build muscle. This book does not really encourage the muscle building more as losing fat while is a good thing post-partum I think will leave a lot of women unsatisfied. However, if you go into this book with knowing these details, you will get good recipes, and some good base knowledge on caloric intake for breastfeeding moms and what foods you can eat to get the amount of vitamins and minerals you would need.

Helpful as a starting point....
I used this as a general guide for losing weight while breastfeeding and found the overall principles helpful in starting out. That being said....I thought the sample meal plans were ridiculous- why so much juice?? Do any adult women really want to eat graham crackers and milk as a snack or have 1/2 glass of OJ AND 1/2 glass of milk in one meal? I found there to be a big emphasis on sweets and sugar and not so much on veggies.I did not follow her meal plans at all, just the guidelines calorie-wise and the food groups to focus on. I personally cut out all sugar and juice and really focused on protein, good fats and veggies and in the first month I have lost 10lbs. I also think she was very conservative in the 1 lb per week redommendation. My milk supply has not been afffected at all and my 5- month old is gaining well.

Great Healthy Eating Guide
I purchased this book 6 weeks after giving birth to my daughter who is exclusively breast feed. I was nervous about dieting because I didn't want to impact my milk supply. This book has been a great choice! I feel like it's a healthy, balanced diet and my milk supply is great! The book is easy to follow and it gives me great comfort to know that when I follow the eating guidelines I am getting all the nutrients that my daughter and I need. I am also training for a triathlon and have been satisfied with the amount of food I can eat. It's actually a lot of food and very nourishing. I recommend this book to all breast feeding mommies.

A lot of horrible advice and poorly organized
Okay, so this book was revised in 2006 and I realized some of the information reflects that. However, I was shocked when this author counted fruit juice as a serving of fruit when it's common knowledge that fruit juice is nothing but sugar with few benefits. Also I was appalled to see aspartame and other artificial sweetners and diet mayos as good alternatives to put in your food when the studies out there are overwhelming. There were sugary cereals and waffles, syrup and other junk listed as foods to eat while breastfeeding. I did take the time to read the sample before buying and it was Nothing like the rest of the book. Also when it came to counting calories or what causes colicky behavior in babies, she had all these studies from the 70s, 80s and early 90s, all contradicting one another and in the end could not give a definitive answer of a good guideline. In the recipe section, she did not provide the calories for them so if you are counting, you have to take the time to figure it out unlike most healthy recipe books which do provide the calorie count. I couldn't even read the last chapter I was so frustrated. The only reason why I didn't give this book a single star rating is because there were some good pieces of advice along with not making the mother feel pressure to get super-skinny in a hurry. Very disappointed.

Would work for ANYBODY!
I was gifted this book years ago and LOVE IT! I have a lot to lose and recently pulled this book out again. In the past I stopped short of my goal due to learning of other diets that sounded too good to be true. WHY stop something that is WORKING?!! This is a very healthy way to lose weight THAT WORKS~not just for breastfeeding Moms~and you won't be hungry, either. (((((HUGS))))) sandiP.S. One thing I do with this book is write up a food journal to record my eating. In the front I copy the equation for my IBW and a list of foods (and the size of the serving) in each food group. I highlight the edges of these pages for easy reference. This way I can count food groups rather than calories, which is SO MUCH EASIER for me to keep track of!

Excellent book. My wife is enjoying it and she says that it's teaching her a lot as well as helping her a lot.

Not for everyone
It is a good book that gives some sensible advice - however I did need to eat a great deal more than the book suggests, and I still lost weight.

It's an ok book. But if you are already quiet educated about healthy eating it's not going to give you much more insight.

Some excellent nutritional advice in here, emphasis on the vitamins and minerals needed to keep you healthy and lose weight.
