The RIGHT tool
This brings back the experience I had years ago when I was still in possession of a good sharpening / honing steel. This is one of the good ones. A couple of swipes puts the edge back on a dull knife or straightens the burr on a rolled-edge knife (next time grind to a broader angle and never cut against ceramic with one of your good knives). The "how-to" videos, of course, always show you the wrongest possible way to use a sharpening steel in the interest of being "safe". Use a steel in exactly the same manner as you would use a second knife to sharpen both at the same time. It's lightning-fast and effective, but you do need to pay a little attention so you don't cut both hands off at the wrist. If you're reasonably competent, you won't suffer any injuries of any sort.

I was going to get out the sharpening stones, but
ATK had done a review of honing rods, I'd had one long ago, but I have no idea where it went. The review got me thinking about getting a new one and their top choice had a 14" rod vs most being 12". So I was looking for a longer (than 12:) one and this one is 15". And the price was right. Tried it on a couple of knives that had failed the tomato test. Sliced through tomatoes ... just glided through. You won't regret getting this one ... assuming you know how to use it.

Solid quality.
Solid honing rod. It's ridges seem durable after several uses and looks like it'll hold up to significant abuse. I'm not a cooking enthusiast but do enjoy a sharp knife, and this does a damn well job in between stone sharpenings for my knives. Not sure about its quality in the long run with someone cooking 3 meals a day though.

It's a solid steel sharpener, but I'm considering returning it because:i) It's not 15 inches. The entire rod is 15 inches but the measurement should describe the metal portion.ii) There's a large logo on it that isn't pictured.

This is an excellent steel; works perfect
This is an excellent steel; works perfect. Beyond the quality of the steel itself, the sharpener has a good heft, is sturdy build and the hilt is octagonal which keeps it from rolling off the counter.Of interest is that there are no manufacturer identification marks anywhere on the sharpener and google doesn't seem to be able to find kolachee (the mfg.) anywhere. Matters not; great sharpener.

Good Buy
I received the sharpening steel the day after I ordered it and I'm impressed with the how well it's made. I went on a knife sharpening binge. It even puts a good edge on stainless knives, which are difficult to sharpen.

Ready for Thanksgiving!
I got this yesterday because I wanted a sharpener to do my knives for Thanksgiving prep. It was the perfect tool. Of course, I would choose an electric knife over this manual one but I'm just so happy I got all my knives done last night. Very easy to use. Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
