Real Construction 13-in-1 Refills

I don't understand what some adults expect. If you want your kids to play with wood etc then get them wood. This is a toy which actually has kept all three of my children (boys aged 3 and 5 and girl aged 10) spell bound since they received it. At first, as an adult you are a bit sceptical, but when you see the kids imagination being used, and them thinking how to put into reality their own ideas, you see what a great toy this is! Its a good grounding in getting them to understand tools, plans and how to work with materials. Pros: Great for imagination and pretend/imitation play. Cons: Needs more 'wood' in to be able to be classed as good value. As it is, I agree that for what is included, it is overpriced. The different items in the kits also are a bit mesmerising, as, for example, a toolbox is included in one set, but not in the others, whereas certain items are included in each set.Often, when kids get to see a gift in real life it is a disappointment - There was no disappointment in the the faces of our kids, which is quite telling.

If you are expecting something that will allow your child to work with what he thinks is wood, forget it. It is, quite simply, just foam rubber. I will use it as draught excluder or insulation. Better I think, to buy Balsa wood, or if your child can handle it, real wood "cut-offs" from your local timber yard.

I have no quibble with the actual product, but I feel very sore about what I paid for it. I bought a large refill pack - 6 large pieces - for £5. This pack consists of 13 SMALL pieces and cost £21 plus £4 postage. This is what happens when you buy in a hurry. I trusted I was getting my money's-worth but should have been more careful. Still smarting about being so badly ripped off!

I was unhappy to learn that the entire product line was discontinued after I purchased the original kit for my grandson. I tried to purchase the refills but after calling the company I was informed that the line was no longer available. I was fortunate to find some refills on Amazon but I won't order again. The idea was really a good one and great for children (with supervision) but if the company had done a better job of clear instructions, not only refill "wood" but also nails, etc. maybe it would still be available. But overall, I think it was fun for my grandson while it lasted.

My 8-yr old just got the Real construction deluxe workshop for Christmas, do we didn't get to the refills yet. I was very disappointed because there aren't any instructions on how to build the items shown on the box. My husband is trying to find some directions on line, but hasn't had any luck yet. The Building Idea Guidebook in the kit only shows pictures of the tools in the kit, a diagram on basic tool use, and diagrams of the items to build, but since there are just sheets of the "wood" material, and no templates, there is no way to make the items shown!!!!!!!!

I bought this for my brother together with some play tools for Christmas and it has just been sitting in a corner because it serves no purpose. It is so stiff there is nothing you could really do or pretend to do with it. It has a very plastic-like quality that you can't cut or screw anything into it using the play tools. I saw a comparable product at Toys r'us, which was much more workable and thought that this would be similar but boy was I wrong. I don't think any child will be able to do much with this.

The entire Line of Real Construction products including the tool kit, are exactly what the manaufature discribes and other reviews indicated. I didn't expect that the product would be all that it was advertised as. I baught the Construction Tool Kit and Refill Packs for my Grandson as a Christmas gift. Because he lives out of state from me, I did not get to see the product and tool kits first hand except on Skype on Christmas morning. My Grandson loves it and built an Airplane as his first project. My daughter said it is very "Cool" . I am the the Favorite Grandpa. i recommend this Product Line

I wanted to love these for my son but they are horribly flimsy. They will not hold a nail or a screw and cannot hold their shape once made into something. I wanted a soft wood for him to learn to hammer/saw/etc but these simply do not wok. Much too soft.

These were a side gift to go with the "Real Construction Kit" I got for my oldest nephew for Christmas.I ordered it along with the starter kit. It arrived very quickly. Good amount for the price.My nephew is really into building toys, so this was a pleasant surprise for him. He lives in another state, so I didn't get to see him play with it, but his Mom said that he loved it a lot.

I got this and the actual starter set for my 6 year old female cousin who asked for tools for Christmas. She loved it because it had the tools and she could make real stuff out of it instead of pretend. Her parents asked me where I got these refills so they could buy her more.

Great price. My 5 year old loved building things with me and this Styrofoam refill set is a necessity when you purchase the set with the tools and screws. Please see my review for the building set.

My 6 yr old daughter bought the Real Construction Kit with her birthday gift card and loved it so much that I bought her the refills for Christmas. She chose to build the bird house and is so proud that she was able to but the faux wood and construct it all by herself. I can't wait to see what she'll build next!

This is basically colored Styrofoam. While it is fun and OK, it is kind of expensive to have to keep buying this stuff to make projects. I would rather get real tools, get scrap wood from a hardware store and do the projects with my kids!

These are great refills for "kid wood" kits (essentially just a plastic foam) and the kids love building stuff with it. The prices here on amazon where cheaper than anywhere else and it arrived exactly as advertised.

We bought this product for the "box" of my 10 year old's science project - which worked great; however, we got the added benefit of additional pieces for creative play! My 4 year old built an airplane and my 10 yr old built a flying "suit" out of it! They labeled it "plastifoam" (it feels like a combination of plastic and foam...with durability not found in foam and softness not found in plastic!) Great invention for youngsters wanting to build and parents not quite ready to hand over real wood, nails and a hammer!

This is a gift for my almost 5 year old grandson. He is very imaginative and likes building things, so I'm hoping he likes this set.

Kids can build things and plan things and really concentrate and learn. I would recommend this to anyone with children or grandchildren.
