One Star-beware the product is defected for one of the two disks
Will not play n my blu ray player. It’s not recognized. Beware of blu ray movie. Second disk played, so I kept it. Just know in the US, the disk with the pic of Bambi won’t play. There are two in the package and so not worth the money.

Best Commentary Track EVER!
The 2-disk "Bambi" DVD is an absolute treasure, with Disney's colorful, dazzling artwork in a full screen format and the best commentary track I have ever enjoyed on a DVD. The story of Bambi's birth and coming of age among his adorable furry friends - Thumper, Flower and Good Friend Owl - was a winner when I was 5 years old and still inspires me in my 50's. Is there any movie that captures innocence, friendship, fear and growing up and the changing of seasons so beautifully? On the commentary track, they recreated, through transcripts of actual story conferences, the voices of "Bambi's" creative team (including Walt and his artists) as they planned the movie scene by scene, frame by frame. You hear their thoughts and plans about color schemes and music and action as the movie unfolds before you. It is a fascinating look into the creation of this animated classic. I knew I'd love "Bambi" but the commentary track was an extra treat. The 2-disk "Bambi" DVD is a great addition to any movie lover's collection.

A Timeless Disney Classic that Never Gets Old
When I heard that most of Walt Disney's classic films were "Going back into the Disney Vault," I knew that I had to hurry up and try to order a few that I had grown up with. "Bambi" certainly being one of them; I can recall very vividly sitting down in the leaving room and watching it on VHS. This timeless Disney classic even made its way into my first grade class at one point and the harrowing scene where all the animals in the forest were trying to escape the forest fire set by the evil hunters eventually triggered a discussion about what usually starts forest fires in real life. All kidding aside, watching this classic film on DVD with a renewed perspective, I can say that even though it's been many years since I've viewed this film, I can still remember key plots in this story very clearly. Maybe it's because I watched it so many times growing up that you never truly forget such a heartfelt story in the first place. The two-disc DVD set comes with a new special features disc that highlights the incredibly long and arduous process of bringing this timeless tale to life on the big screen. "Inside Walt's Story Meetings" reveals the collaborative work between Walt Disney himself and many other studio executives as actors and current Disney experts narrate the actual conversation that took place more than sixty years ago set against key scenes in the film as they play out on screen. It's very similar to a director's commentary that would be included in today's blockbuster films. Another very informative behind the scenes segment is "Time Capsule: The year of Bambi". Hosted by Patrick Stewart renowned for his performances in (Star Trek: The Next Generation, A Christmas Carol and the TV movie mini series Moby Dick.) Stewart has recently lent his wonderful acting prestige to the new release of "Bambi 2" where he plays Bambi's father. It's nice to see such a wonderful actor like Stewart getting involved in more family friendly film endeavors. Moving on, Time Capsule examines the era in history where "Bambi" found its way into the hearts of millions around the world and provided audiences with an easy momentary escape from the fears and troubles of World War II. Finally, in "The Making of Bambi" we get to meet the surviving actors of the film and learn how they lent their original talents to a movie that would be destined to become a legend. An interesting fact that I found most insightful was that the former actor who voiced Bambi in the original film later went onto command entire army regiments during his more mature years in adulthood. If you have kids who are dying to watch a great Disney movie or just want to relive a more innocent time of your childhood for nostalgia, "Bambi" is definitely worth getting. As for me, other great classics like Pinocchio, Cinderella and The Lion King are on my "to do list" to check out on DVD.

Bambi.- 2 disc edition- Don't miss out...
Review of Bambi (2005)- '2 Disc edition' .Some films we may have viewed when we were young are often not as good as we believed-nostalgia can do that. The ongoing affection that people feel for 'Bambi' from 1941 I don't think is 'nostalgia driven', .it's a near perfect film( I was an adult when I first watched it) that doesn't waste a frame or have a character or unnecessary line of dialogue ..And in my view hasn't dated & I think will continue to be popular...There is much that could be said about this example of Disney at their very best, that fits much about life, loss, the importance of friends, nature & much more all fitted into a 70min running time ,that should keep even the most fidgety of children (or adults) entranced. The film in original 4:3 ratio has had 'a digital restoration'-with a strikingly.clearer picture, that really makes the changes of season vivid & the option of sound in original mono or 5.1 Dolby + English subtitles. Disc 1 has a thorough 70min feature using the recorded meetings of the film makers with early sketches & other visuals ,showing how much time ,hard work & thought they put into this filmDisc2 shows a couple of 'missing scenes', 5 mini games & activities for children, a(53min) 'making of Bambi' section.Hundreds of images of the design of the animals & look of the film (with an informative optional commentary available). Also has a(6min) restoration feature & other trailers & much more- all on a 2disc release priced as a single disc..So don't miss out & get this absolute Classic in your collection at a bargain price that should be impossible to turn down ..& your world may be that little bit better..

A Dazzling Restoration and packed with Extras! (Two-Disc Special DVD Edition)
I loved this Disney animated classic when I first saw it as a very young child, although I didn't buy the DVD for a trip down memory lane. Rather, because, having read of the death of the Disney artist, Tyrus Wong in December last year, I couldn't wait to see it again, mostly for the artwork. The New York Times described this perfectly: 'Disney's craftsmen have re-created a woodland that shimmers and glows and darkens altogether magically. The wind over a green field, the morning light on the meadow ....' Much of this was due to Wong's creation of semi-abstract backgrounds inspired by Chinese art, and the result is truly wonderful. Of course the animations, the voices, songs and music are also transporting, and on this DVD (not blu ray) edition they are improved by Disney's state-of-the-art Enhanced Modern Home Theatre Mix. Absolute bliss!SPECIAL FEATURES INCLUDE: Inside Walt's Story Meetings; Deleted sequences; The Making of Bambi, A Prince is Born; DisneyPedia (facts about our forest friends); Lots of games and activities (I followed one of these 'The Forest Adventure' which is for very young children, but I found it a delightful experience.) There are also subtitles, in English and English for the Hard of Hearing (but only on the main feature.)At current prices, it's a real bargain, and one of the best ever Disney productions for your collection, particularly if you like the old style loving attention to detail animators brought to their creations in those days. But bear in mind it was made in 1942, so may be a little too slow and gentle for some of today's kids.UPDATE: My review has also been posted against another edition of Bambi so make sure you look for the one with the cover that clearly states 2-disc special edition at the bottom, although there are a few extras on the other edition as well. Also, prices change very quickly sometimes.

It will bring back the memories
The other reviews will provide sufficient depth of feeling for this wonderful film. That it was Walt's favourite. That the story is so simple, blending comedy with tragedy with love and with hate. So simple a story and yet so beautifully presented and executed. What I will say is that it took me back to being a young child over 50 years ago, my Mum and Dad taking me to the cinema for a special treat....... I don't think a film has ever done that to me before.
