The Very Best of Father Ted [1995] [DVD]

Worth watching .

I bought this after watching some repeats on More 4. I suppose this is a classic case of "not really missing something until it's gone".At the time of the original broadcasts I enjoyed watching, but to be fair I did not think it was anything special. Now some 20 odd years later I finally appreciate just how good it really was. The writing is superb and every member of the cast is absolutely solid. It was very original when first shown, but with time it has not dated and in many ways has matured very nicely indeed.

This DVD is a fine collection of the funniest episodes of 'Father Ted'. The classics are 'Competition Time' with the three Elvis Presleys, 'Cigarettes & Alcohol & Rollerblading' when all three priests vow to give up their vices, 'A Song for Europe' when they all take part in a eurovision song entry, 'Speed' where the local milkman makes Mrs Doyle swoon and Ted gets him sacked, 'The Mainland' where Ted has to bail Mrs Doyle and Father Jack out of prison and lastly 'A Christmassy Ted' when all Ted wants is a quiet Christmas but all hell breaks loose when a stranger arrives and wrecks Ted's celebrations.Overall I thoroughly recommend this DVD as one which should please Ted's fans. It had me in stitches.

How could anyone not love this? There are so many laugh-out-loud moments in the entire span of Father Ted, that it is virtually impossible to put together a DVD of the finest episodes without said disc stretching to a four-hour span! Everyone who loves Father Ted has their favourites: this compilation is a superb starter for anyone unfamiliar with Craggy Island.

My husband suffers from dementia and he just loves to watch Fr. Ted and he laughs and laughs. It’s wonderful to see him so happy.

Superb collection, all the favourites are here. If you are a fan this is a must have collection. If you are not familiar with this series, this is a good introduction.

Bought as a gift for a family member but do find a lot of the episodes are repeated on TV very often and I still find them hilarious as first time around. Excellent comedy, a laugh a minute!
