Wheat-Based Natural Cat Litter, Multi-Cat, 12 Pound Bag

Tracks, Stinks, and more.
I buy a LOT of stuff from Amazon, but I write hardly any reviews. I had to regarding this product. I have 5 cats that are all rescue cats, but one. With six litter boxes, we were really looking for a more natural litter that wasn't dusty and didn't track. Odor control and clumping was a plus too. I saw this product, loved the idea and most of the reviews and gave it a try........unfortunately. I put this product in the two main litter boxes that are used the most, as a trial. After using the 75 pounds I bought, I have determined that this may be the worst cat litter we have ever tried. First, it tracks like crazy. It is made of wheat, so imagine clumps and crumbs of urine soaked "cookie dough" everywhere. We have large litter mats in front of all the pans and we STILL have cat litter on the carpets, the kitchen floor, the beds, the window sills, you name it. We vacuum constantly. This stuff is VERY sticky when wet and the cats always have it stuck to their feet. The stickiness is an issue when cleaning the pans too. It never clumps hard, but remains moist and like glue on the sides and bottom of the cat pans, requiring a good deal of effort to scrap the pan clean. (BTW - I would NEVER flush this stuff down a toilet with a septic system! That would simply be asking for an expensive repair.) It is heavy, wet, and is not cost effective at all. The next big problem is the smell. Admittedly, it does a good job of masking the urine smell.........with it's own sickening urine/wheat combination smell. We've had cats for most of the last 40 years. We used to place rescued litters at our family business. We are very used to cleaning cat pans. The smell from this stuff almost makes me gag and my wife just can't stand it. I don't like perfumed cat litter, but this odor is worse. Lastly, and more importantly (and the push I needed to write this review), two of my cats have developed pretty severe skin allergies, resulting in constant licking and hair pulling......creating large hairless areas. We have never experienced this before. Our vet thought it was a food allergy but was skeptical. We tried hypo-allergenic foods to no avail. I had to dose each one with anti-histamines each day, and even that did not completely stop the itching. Removing this litter from the equation has dramatically improved the condition. Their hair is starting to grow back (in a different color! LOL) We never thought that cat litter could be the issue, until the vet asked about any litter changes. All in all, I would not recommend this litter. When I changed litter, I had to scrub the pans with soap and water and a rough sponge. Some of the dried on spots required scraping with a cedar shingle. I'm using a non-tracking, non-stick kind now. I like it much better. I know I sound like a real complainer, but I'm really not. This is just a bad product. At least it is for us, and our cats, and I thought other cat lovers should know of our experience before buying this. It is really too bad as this seems like such a good, healthy idea.

smells like saw dust
I am seriously curious what’s up with all those depressing reviews?! It works well, serves the purpose. Yes, smells like saw dust, kind of. How else it should smell ? If you think that after cat pooped it should smell like perfume--- well, it does not. No artificial weird “cologne” smells. Yes, slight dust in the air when I scoop it out from bag. It is normal. I do not stay and inhale it. Does not stick to the paws, cats do not track it to other rooms. Somebody wrote about some bugs.. What bags?! No bugs, no ants, no moth or any other alive creatures jumping from the bag. My cats do not eat this litter, and I do not add catnip to make it attractive, so they do not attempt to roll in this stuff. Clumps very well after 5- 10 min of untouched urine. Great for toilet training. I marked 4 stars instead of 5 just because it is a bit on expensive side for my pocket. Otherwise, great product. I bought already several times. Now I wish to have the bag 36 lb for next day free shipping. Overall, I am happy with this.

Awesome EXCEPT for the dust factor
This has some strong pros and one major con - I had to put my start rating in the middle to average it out. I've been using this with my new cat since we got him as a baby about 9 months ago. You really do have to wait to scoop urine clumps or they will completely disintegrate, but as long as you wait a bit, the clumps are strong. The best part is as long as your cat buries his poop, it *completely* hides any smell. There have been times I was not even aware he had done his business until I cleaned the box hours later. We had to make the litter quite deep, getting an extra large deep box to accommodate, because the urine tends to dribble through the litter a distance before it starts to bind up, and he was getting urine on his paws as they sunk into the soft texture. Like any small grain litter, it does tend to track out of the box quite a bit as well, but I've really never found a litter that didn't.The one big con - this is hands down the *dustiest* litter I've ever used in my life. I am completely baffled at to how people say it is "dust-free". I don't know if their cats simply do not dig in it at all? I have tried multiple "formulas" of the Swheat Scoop with the same result. My cat comes out of the box looking like he has had a powder puff slammed into his face several times. He is covered in wheat dust. Wheat may be edible but it is hard to imagine all that dust being very good for him to inhale and get in his eyes. I am trying to transition him to pine pellets for this reason. If you find your cat somehow does not get dusty, then I would otherwise highly recommend this litter.UPDATE - nearly a year later (May 2018), the dust factor has overwhelmed me and I am still looking for an alternative currently as he didn't accept the pine pellets. I stand by my earlier comments though - powerful odor control, tracks badly but what doesn't, and clumps are strong *as long as you wait at least 30 minutes to scoop*.

Cost Savings and Convenience
We have been using Swheat Scoop Multi Cat for a few years now. It is just so convenient to put the soiled litter in the toilet and be gone with it. Our cats like it. We scoop at least twice a day and add more litter as needed. The box gets completely cleaned (dump old litter and replace with new) every 2 weeks. We have 2 boxes per cat plus one more as recommended in a few articles I read. The best part of buying SwheatScoop from Amazon is two fold. Cost savings plus additional cost savings with Amazon repeat orders (can't remember the term they use) and the convenience of having a 36 lb. bag delivered to our door. Thank you to Amazon and SwheatScoop.

Cat prefers it over World's Best Cat Litter. Doesn't clump as well, but keeps things fresh.
Switched from World's Best Cat Litter and my cat prefers it. I think it's softer on her paws. Did notice flying bugs and made the mistake of putting the garbage bag I used to temporarily hold the litter while I cleaned the box in the garbage can where I keep the litter box. A lot of bugs were flying around inside. After I emptied and cleaned the garbage can outside, I only noticed one bug later which I got rid of. Since then, no bugs. As a precaution I keep the bag in the laundry room separate from the litter box and make sure I seal it well.Litter doesn't clump as well as World's Best, but okay as long as I take the time to scoop as much as possible. Flushes okay. Not too much dust. Smells fresh. Except when there's new poo there isn't a smell in the room. I started to reuse the litter after cleaning the box once a week. So far it's been almost a month and I haven't needed to change it out completely. I do top up the litter once in a while after cleaning.

Not a fan of this product.
The product has a weird smell even before the cats do their business. I like the idea of plant based litter, even though it costs ALLOT more, but I wish this product was better.Clumping action 4 out of 5.Odour control 1 out of 5.Tracking litter 2 out of 5.~kP.s. I'm writing this review on my husband's account because it is registered with Amazon Prime which at the moment does not transfer to family at the same address as a verified buyer. It is really nice not having to luge a heavy load in the car like cat litter, because I have physical challenges but I'm trying a different product.

Expensive and not very effective
Our household is a "multi-cat" home. We have five adult cats who share several litter boxes around the house. When one of them started losing fur on her legs, we decided to switch from their previous clay litter to something more natural.Since sWheat is quite popular and it seemed to have strong reviews, we decided to try it out for a few months.Pros:+ Unlike clay litter, this one isn't nearly as dusty or harsh when breathing it.+ It's helped our balding cat to grow new fur! She had an allergy or something to the clay litter we were using before.+ It clumps (see cons)+ It's more environmentally friendly and renewable.Cons- While it clumps, it's a "messy clump" that sticks to the litter pan or falls apart before you can scoop it all up. This has been the case in both regular litter pans using a cat litter scoop and also sifting litter boxes.- After several days of use and regular cleaning, this litter begins to stink a lot, which means full litter changes happen more often.- This litter is way more expensive than other litters but comparable to other natural litters. We've since switched to wood pellets to see if we can keep costs down and improve the effectiveness of our litter.

doesn't clump that well, doesn't control odor, biodegradeable
I like that this litter is lighter than kaolin clay litter and apparently can be flushed (I am scared to try it as can't afford a plumber). It is biodegradable, which I like. However, it doesn't clump well at all and doesn't control ammonia odor so whatever environmental effect you think you might have by switching to this is offset by the fact that you WILL need to switch out the entire box weekly, not monthly like you can do with clay-based litters because the litter gets very dirty and smelly.
