Daily Life in a Covered Wagon

Very good !
This book turned out to be exactly what I hoped for. I suppose it's written with school kids in mind. But even at my age it was very informative. The pictures of tools, equipment, supplies and necessary items makes the whole package come together very nicely. Excerpts from the diaries and sidebars of information contribute to a couple hours of valuable historical information. I agree that this book would be great for grade school classes. Also any family or person thinking about a roadtrip west of the Mississippi should at least have ths knowlege in the back of their mind. While driving across the country you'll have a better idea of what the pioneers had to deal with. At about 10 miles a day they made camp every night and broke camp in the early morning. They scavanged for firewood where there were no trees. Everything they owned was either in the covered wagon or walking beside it. Whatever they had in the past was over and gone. A new future was hopefull but unknowen. They cooked, ate and slept outdoors no matter the weather. And they buried their dead parents, spouses & children in places they could never find or visit again. You won't be disappointed with this book. I hope this helps you. Ted

An excellent and easy read, well illustrated.
This book is highly visual, and while it's targeted to an elementary school audience, the text and accompanying illustrations are sophisticated and engaging. If you need a way to quickly and easily communicate the difficulties faced by US overland pioneers, you'll find this book quite handy.

Great for Middle School aged students!
I am a tour guide that teaches students from Pre-K up through High School. This is an excellent reference book to teach realistic facts about the Oregon Trail! I keep mine displayed for classroom teachers to see and encourage them to add it to their classroom libraries! Great for Middle School aged students!!

Good educational book probably for juveniles
This was a gift for a history buff. It seemed a little juvenile for an adult (probably meant for kids), but it does have great pictures and is informative for adults too.

Excellent for research
I loved this book. I wanted to do some research about life on the trail, and this was an excellent first step on the research journey. It gives enough detail to be historically accurate and interesting, without getting bogged down in too much information. Anyone wishing to do further research can use this book to easily identify the particular topics they want to take further.

My son took it to school to work on a project. His teacher kept it. She fussed so much and guilted me about how it was integral to the class now that it was in the classroom, I just let her have it. I couldn't take it back since other children were using it for their projects.
