Excellent
Was received on the date listed on tracking which was early. Machine is wonderful. Would recommend this machine. Works well. Replaced my 30 year singer which was refurbished and still works. Could no longer get bobbins that fit.

Expected More for the Price
I had high hopes for this machine after reading wonderful reviews for Janome. Alas, the 2014 did not meet my expectations for a machine costing over $500. First the Cons:1. The bobbin is not drop and sew. You have to turn the wheel or drop the needle to draw up the bobbin thread. I thought this feature was long gone; even my 5 year old Singer was drop and sew.2. The tension is manual, not automatic, although in all honesty I did not have to adjust it for quilters cotton3. To wind the bobbin you need to press on the foot pedal; it does not automatically fill and stop when finished4. The light fades in and out when you are sewing ( as if you were experiencing a power surge). This happens every time I used the machine5. The back stitch is also manual- you need to hold it in the entire time you want to backstitch.6. The thread spool pin is cheap plastic and very tight. Only a matter of time before it breaks when you change your thread since it does not move easily.7. Threading the machine is hard at the lower end because you have to bend over to see the lower thread guide ( it is recessed so far back- very poor design) and the needle bar thread guide. The automatic needle threader was worthless to me. Not one time was I able to get it to work8. The presser foot was supposed to have 3 settings but the highest position was almost impossible to achieve since it is so stiff and hard to raise above the normal middle setting. There are definitely some Pros for this machine:1. The light is very bright (when it does not momentarily fade)2. It is a very quiet machine; I loved that aspect3. The mode selection key allows you to adjust the stitch length up to 5.0mm, a setting I found perfect for basting and long gathering stitches. There are more than enough utility and decorative stitches to choose from.4. The Feed Dogs! They are wonderful and feed the fabric perfectly. Stitching never skips; stitches are even and beautiful. I almost kept the machine simply because of the wonderful feed dog system.5. Lastly the face plate cover is hinged for easy opening. This is a nice feature.Unfortunately I felt the cons outweighed the pros and I returned the machine. I expected more for the price. I would not recommend it for someone who is used to automatic features but it would be more than adequate for a novice or intermediate seamstress who hasn't been spoiled by a higher end machine.

Seems to work well right now. Do not like the fact that the needle only moves to the left. Very limited in that respect. The various stitches I have tried formed well, had some minor trouble with tension but I overcame that also. I am 64 yrs. young have been sewing since I was 7 yrs. old I would tell anyone to buy this machine for a good dependable machine.

This is the best machine under $500
There are so many pros for this machine. This is a upgrade replacement for Brother 2125i which I had for 7 years. I did research for sewing machine around $500, and other brands reviews indicate their machine were no longer reliable like had been in past. Janome stands out as steady and reliable. You can check all the features, but my favorite are following: speed control slider, automatic needle threader, up/down needle position button, and Stitch number, width, and length buttons. This is also came with a carrying case, and you would have to buy separately for most of other machine. This also come with a lot of feet. I've used this for a week, and I mend couple of pants, and made a simple skirt and rain jacket. This is my first computerized sewing machine, and I'm so glad to have this. (I should have bought long time ago) Automatic needle threader is need to get used to, but it works great once you know how. The manual is big and easy to read, with good graphic next to the explanation. It is not too heavy, so you can carry around, and bring to classes. The bonus kits are nice additional, too. One thing I should add is on the picture, the bonus kits include 2 pack of Janome needle 15x1, but I got 15x1 and 11 blue tip needle instead. Over all, I would recommend this to anyone who like to sew.

I am very pleased with this sewing machine
I am very pleased with this sewing machine. The manual that came with it was very clear and easy to understand. I became quite familiar with the machine in a very short time. I am not a real experienced sewer so this was a plus! The various feet that snap on are great. It was a little cumbersome and difficult to get the walking foot on because the shank has to be removed. However, I think most other machines are about the same. I love the speed control feature and the up and down needle feature. The tension was correct right from the start. I would have loved to have the threat cutter that one just has to push a button but that is the least of my concerns. I would certainly recommend this machine.

I bought this machine, different year but same machine and loved it so much that husband's siblings came together and replaced their moms machine with this one. Then my mom had trouble with hers and got tired of fighting it as I sat across from her without trouble, with a solid, quiet sewing machine. She had me order one for her too. I sew with people and there are 2 more ladies who will eventually have one, after they save up.I love the quarter inch foot, it makes staying at a quarter inch so much easier. I will start free hand sewing on it next. I quilt and have made many quilts with it. I've never had a tension problem. I used to have issues here and there with knotting up and I finally realized that it was the bobbin. I don't fill it to the very end and if I have trouble, I check the bobbin to see how smooth it looks. When I was looking for a sewing machine, I went to a janome store and the lady told me the different colors are just different years. The DC2014 is the same as the DC2011. Pick your color and enjoy. I don't think you can go wrong with this machine, but this is only my second machine.
