Good Story Telling Makes all the Difference
I love these Chinese Breeze books. I've read levels 1 & 2 because they're available for Kindle, and I hope the other levels are made available soon. The stories are exceptionally good, even exciting and touching at times, which is saying *a lot* for language-learning materials. Thanks to the controlled vocabulary, you can enjoy an engaging story in Chinese without having to stop and check the dictionary, as is invariably the case when reading authentic materials. I dare say that even intermediate or advanced learners of Chinese will have fun reading the level 1 & 2 books, even though the circumlocution can be a bit tedious. One shortcoming is that the vocabulary glosses do not have a pinyin pronunciation guide. This is a real flaw that I hope the publishers will correct if/when they release subsequent levels in Kindle format.I am copying this review on each of the Kindle books in levels 1 & 2.

Great tool for learning
This series is very helpful for learning Chinese, as other reviewers have noted. Downloading the free Chinese dictionary for Kindle makes it even easier to look up unknown words when reading on a Kindle or through a Kindle app. By annotating the terms you look up, you can create your own vocabulary list. Not five stars because the Kindle addition does not come with audio.

Very NIce and an Enjoyable book
I have a 500 vocabs level. But I can speak Chinese quite well.It took me 4 hours to finish reading because I had to look up words from an online dictionary as part of Kindle. The book was rated as 1.5 hours reading time. The story was mysterious, so it kept me going until I finished.

It's designed for Chinese language learners. Has question exercises, vocabulary list a cd
I like this idea very much. It's much more interesting than the boring dialogues in those grammar books. I havent used the cd yet because I usually carry the book around with me. I read it when I have a little bit of time to enhance my other language lessons

Good Reading Series for Intermediate Students
Chinese Breeze is a fun and engaging series of intermediate level Chinese reading books for language students. The grammar and vocabulary is simple enough that intermediate readers can smoothly follow and enjoy the stories. The stories themselves are diverse -- with modern romance and intrigue, to historical tales, to touching family stories. I think this a good series, and great for students to practice reading skills in abundance. I would recommend the entire Chinese Breeze series to any student of Chinese.

Useful but somewhat simplistic textbook
This textbook is an entertaining way to review Chinese characters and Mandarin grammar. Using the notes along with a down-loaded Chinese dictionary facilitates ease of reading. Of course the small (500 character) vocabulary is limiting, and the story rather disappointing--the folkloric elements of the shape-shifting fox spirits are not explored in depth, and the story ends abruptly "happily ever after." It's also rather brief. Still, a good supplementary resource for beginning students (late in first year of a college course).

A nice simple mythological tale
A simple but happy story of a young man and finding love. A enjoyable way to practice reading Chinese at an low intermediate level.

A Winner
Great book! I really like fairy stories and magical tales and this one kept my attention. The Painted Skin is the other book in this series that I thought was the best of them all. This book comes in second. I am working through them all. Unfortunately some if the books in this series are boring but this is definitely not one of them.

Hello foxgirl!
First off, I am a big fan of the Chinese Breeze series, because (1) unlike the Chinese Graded Reader series, Chinese Breeze doesn't show Pinyin on the page -- and it provides more comprehensive quiz questions too, (2) unlike some of the Rainbow Bridge series, proper names are kept to an absolute minimum, making the story easier to follow. The plot of this classic story is told in a somewhat fragmented way, but it's atmospheric, culturally informative, and interesting to read.

I love these books
I love this series of books. I'm a bit slow reading this one, I've been ill, and this is a step up from the previous ones I've read. But I'm loving it

A ghost story!
The Chinese love their ghost stories! Very useful to be able to read a story without having to constantly refer to a dictionary.
